And it’s the latter that Jenito’s MicroTale appears to be attempting to emulate, with the game now available for purchase through Desura.

As our own Alex Bokan noted in his preview of the game back in January, MicroTale is a creative sandbox title with a few RPG elements thrown in for good measure. Set in a randomly-generated 2D environment, the game encourages players to explore and experiment with the landscape in order to gain loot, cash and resources. Much like many of its counterparts in the sandbox genre, MicroTale also contains its fair share of NPC enemies and, thus, combat encounters, which aim to secure a happy medium between structural planning and battle preparation.

What apparently differentiates MicroTale from its rivals is the ability to craft airships using the loot you’ve gathered over the course of your travels. Not only are the vehicles’ components fully customisable, but the air vessels are also totally controllable in mid-air, adding a new edge to what could otherwise be considered an oversaturated set of game mechanics.

MicroTale can be purchased through Desura for £3.99, where a free demo is also available. More information about the game can be found at Jenito’s official website.

You may be interested in:

The companies tied to these prizes include Adobe, Antix Labs, Turbulenz, Made With Marmalade, obviously Bluevia and a few others.

The organizers aren’t taking any money from entry free, it’s a £5 donation to GamesAid and o2ThinkBig – go grab your tickets here.

This seems like a really good opportunity for any indie developer, not just because of the prizes and free catering, but also meeting up with other developers and getting involved in the bustle of fast-paced game development.
