Torchlight Update Adds Achievements, Steam Cloud

Torchlight_Update []We’ve already pointed out that Torchlight has been given a 50% off sale on Steam, but if you’re the kind of person who has to have a reason for everything we have you covered as the discount celebrates a new update to the dungeon crawler.

This particular update isn’t your run of the mill change log fodder though, Runic’s action RPG gains Steam Cloud support and 67 achievements with the patch. For those unfamiliar with Cloud, it allows you to save characters and games and access them on any computer with your Steam account.

So there you go, oh and Torchlight is only $10 through the weekend so get on that too.

Torchlight $5 off on D2D

Torchlight_Discount_D2D []Direct2Drive is doing a ‘twitter exclusive’ sale on Runic Games’ excellent action RPG Torchlight, taking 25% off the game through tomorrow, November 22. Just enter the code 5OFFTORCH at checkout and you’ll get, you guessed it, $5 off Torch.

The gameplay really takes the Diablo style to another level, and with the title you get the TorchED editor which lets you customize practically everything you see. It’s a real great game, well worth the standard $20–let alone only $15.

If you need further convincing, check out Geoff’s review.

Torchlight Gets Retail Release

TorchlightOh happy days! It’s always nice to see an indie game beak out from it’s digitally distributed shackles and adorn the much more comfortable shackles of a box and shelf. Seriously though, it would appear our little indie action RPG is set to launch itself onto store shelves in early January where it will be competing with… Diablo 2. I can’t believe stores are still selling that game!

For those that don’t yet know, Torchlight is a brilliant game in the same vein as Diablo so fans of the series need not look elsewhere to get their fix in before the third iteration of Diablo launches a gajillion years from now. You can even read our own review of it!

Anyways, the retail release comes courtesy of  Encore Software and the retail price will be no larger than the digitally distributed price of 19.99. So it really all just depends on if you want a box or not. Personally, I can’t remember the last time I actually bought a boxed PC game, but everybody has a preference I suppose.

Look for it on January 5th.

With the editor, modders will have the ability to create new levels, quests, monsters, items, adjust AI even create custom skills. Additionally, if you have experience using 3D Studio Max, or are willing to get some, you can make your own animations and modify textures. That’s one accessible editor!

Of course, if there are any mods that grab big attention for their design you can safely bet they’ll be highlighted on DIYgamer.

The file is out now for owners of the game, weighing in at 384MB and available on FileShack.

Into the Goblin Hole… Torchlight [Review]

E3-shoulder-dashWith this week comes a new RPG. One that is maybe not as hyped or anticipated as Dragon Age or Final Fantasy XIII but one that, with all it’s heart and character, will undoubtedly win you over. I am, of course, speaking of Runic Games’ Torchlight.

Torchlight is an action RPG in the same vein as Diablo and Titan Quest. This means you’ll be running around dungeons, killing swaths of boogies and goblins, and hording as much loot as you (and your pet) can carry. Oh and believe me when I say this: Torchlight has plenty of loot… “phat, phat lewt”.

Torchlight Goes On Sale Oct 27th

E3-stomp-cryptThis one is hot off the virtual presses! Runic Games, via their Torchlight website, have announced that their Diablo-esque action RPG is going for sale, on Steam, on October 27th. This is GREAT news for anybody who has really been hankering for an action RPG like Diablo but has come up empty for the last year or so.

Runic Games is comprised of the same people who were in the process of developing Mythos, another Diablo-esque action RPG turned MMO. I was in the Mythos beta for over a year and was having a great time… until Flagship Studios collapsed leaving the game in a purgatory state. Needless to say Torchlight is a step-brother, so to say, of Mythos and will offer similar styled gameplay.

Runic is also said to be working on an MMO based off of Torthlight as soon as the game is released so, naturally, we are looking forward to trying it out as soon as possible.
