RailWorks Class 380 Electric Multiple DLC Hits Steam

RailWorks_380_DLCWe’ve already pointed out RailSimulator’s insistence to release additional content for its train sim RailWorks at an alarming rate, but it appears it’s all in vein as yet another piece of DLC has arrived for the game.

Known as the Class 380 Electric Multiple, the add-on features three of the C-380 EM units and 2 brand new scenarios: VIP Demonstration and Mountain Mileage.

The content is priced at $20 and is available now for purchase and download via Steam, from the description:

A total of 38 Class 380 sets are being built for introduction on electrified routes in Scotland. The 38 units comprise a total of 130 vehicles forming a mixture of 3 and 4 car sets. This flexibility allows ScotRail (the national operator) to run a variety of train lengths depending on capacity demands.

While following other designs for the most part, the Class 380 introduces a new front end style that conforms to the latest safety standards. This gives the unit a swept back look.

Due for delivery in September 2010, the full fleet is expected to be in operation around Glasgow by March 2011 and maintained at Shields Road Depot.

The Class 380 Electric Multiple Unit includes:

Class 380 Driving Motor Open Standard

Class 380 Trailer Open Standard with Lavatory

Class 380 Pantograph Trailer Open Standard with Lavatory & Wheel Chair access

2 Scenarios

VIP Demonstration – A demonstration of the new Class 380 Electric Multiple Unit has been arranged at the manufacturers test track. Guests have arrived by bus and one of the first 3-car units is waiting at the near by platform. There is no specific plan for the demo so feel free to explore the site and drive any train you wish.

Mountain Mileage – Join a brand new Class 380 multiple unit destined for the UK, as it is put through its paces accumulating fault free miles around the Continental network before being shipped to its new owner. 15mins/Easy.

More RailWorks DLC Keeps Chuggin’ Out

RailWorks_New_DLCRailSimulator continues to release new content for its train sim RailWorks at breakneck speeds. Earlier this week announcing add-ons The Southern Pacific GS-4 Pack and 0-4-0ST Saddle Tank Locomotive Pack.

Both pieces of DLC bring a variety of new content to the title including new trains, free roams, scenarios and more.

The Southern Pacific pack runs $20 while the Saddle Tank pack currently offers a discounted tag of $9 instead of the standard $13.

From the descriptions:

Southern Pacific ordered a total of 28 Class GS-4 (“GoldenState”) locomotives from Lima Locomotive Works, with streamlined Daylight livery. The GS-4s began to be delivered to the railroad in 1941. Locomotive 4449 was retired in 1957 and was restored to operational condition and repainted into red, white and blue as part of the USA’s bi-centennial celebrations.

The earliest tank locomotives date from the 1840s, one of the first of which was used to build branch lines along the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway in the UK. In spite of the early belief that such locomotives were inherently unsafe, the idea quickly caught on, particularly for industrial use and five manufacturers exhibited designs at an Exhibition in 1851.

RailWorks Hits Retail via eDimensional

RailWorksRailSimulator.com has announced a partnership with publisher eDimensional to bring their train simulation title RailWorks to retail, in fact the game is on shelves now. The solid sim brings new concepts to the genre, included in the base game are 13 locomotives and eight different routes across Europe and North America.

One concern that has been quelled over buying the boxed version is access to the budding online downloadable content, which apparently won’t be a problem, from eDimensional’s Nathan Newman:

eDimensional is delighted to be the exclusive North American distributor of the best-selling RailWorks Train Simulator. Consumers in the US and Canada will finally be able to obtain the ultimate train simulator locally as well as access and add to the growing catalog of exciting add-ons developed specifically for RailWorks. This is great news for simulation fans everywhere.

Railworks Train Simulator 50% off

RailworksTrain aficionados take heed, available on Steam right now is Railworks Train Simulator for half the price it would normally cost you. The game’s unusually high price tag — $68.98 for a PC game — is now only $34.49 making actually buying the game much more palatable. Plus, for those of you who really love train simulators, the recently released expansion pack is also half off at a mere $11.99!

For those who don’t really know what Railworks is, it’s a train simulator. Think Microsoft’s Flight Simulator series, replace all planes with trains, and bam you’ve got yourself a game. While this may sound like a bore to some, I can definitely see the appeal in the game to those of you who fancy yourself some realistic train action… I’m not joking or trying to be a smart-ass either. The game genuinely looks to be a pretty good train simulator.
