That’s more or less why the recent announcement of <strong>Enough Plumbers 2</strong> is pretty good news.</p><p>Drawing on the conventional puzzle-platforming mechanics of the original, <strong>Enough Plumbers 2</strong> will feature improved graphical quality, more power-ups and the capacity to support hundreds of different on-screen plumbers at any one time in what would appear to be a subtle approach towards industrial unionism.</p><span class="embed-youtube c2"><iframe class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/XUan7-kbvC8?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;fs=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;wmode=transparent" frameborder="0"/></span><p>Despite its technical advances, though, <strong>Enough Plumbers 2</strong> retains its predecessor’s retro charm, a quality that’s supported admirably by its chiptune soundtrack and its clear homages to the AI enemies of platforming yesteryear. And there’s no shadow of a doubt that developer Glen Forrester’s penchant for a punchy <em>Mario</em> parody remains untainted, leaving us in no position to doubt the game’s cheery, self-mocking tone.</p><p class="c3">The game looks set to be released at some stage during the next couple of months on web browsers. The basic concept of <a href="http://johanpeitz.com/asms/"><strong>A Super Mario Summary</strong></a> is to take that original classic and turn every level into a “summary”. By that Johan means that he has squashed each level into just one screen. Distinctive features from every level are kept and everything else scrapped to prevent the act of scrolling across the screen.</p><p>You’ll see below how the first level pans out. Left in are just the stairs, a single goomba and of course the flagpole. The graphics of the game are typical of Peitz’s Pixelizer and they hold a strength in their simplicity. The basic colors match those in Super Mario Bros. but have a certain glow about them, particularly the light blue sky. Later in the game the more complex (and I’m using that tentatively) elements of the classic platformer come to fruition. Rotating lines of fire, springs and flying lava all pop up. Of course, even the mighty Bowser appears and tries to disrupt your path of progress.</p><p><a href="http://www.indiegamemag.com/ld23-a-super-mario-summary/sss-2/" rel="attachment wp-att-28104"><img src="http://www.indiegamemag.com/media/sss1-613x383.png" alt="A Super Mario Summary" title="A Super Mario Summary" width="613" height="383" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-28104" /></a></p><p>About the only thing missing from <strong>A Super Mario Summary</strong> is any background music. We have sounds in place, jumping and collecting coins will fill in most silent gaps, but the finishing touch would have been a little tune to bop along to. The developers behind new 3D platformer, <strong>Tiny Cthulhu</strong>, fit the rainbow colored bill perfectly and we’re finding it hard to restrain from our lustful eyes’ demands.</p><p>“You must send them gifts and make rainbow babies”, the voice inside our head demands. It’s fine though, we’ve learned to ignore it for now, though it is tempting to give in. Let’s just move on the game, shall we? So as said, this is a 3D platformer with lots of color (RAINBOWS), the developer said of this choice, “I’m tired of games that are predominantly a muted grey-and-brownish colour … I want this one to look like an explosion in a migraine factory…A radioactive migraine factory…”</p><p>Oh gosh that voice is getting loud…um, moving on. The game is also going to have expanse environments to explore too (“cyclopean, if you will…”) and will feature some elements of third person shooting, apparently a la Ratchet &#038; Clank. As the developer is also a massive Lovecraftian nerd, all of the Mythos elements in the game will be accurate depictions, though we’re doubtful of the degree of this accuracy when the game clearly needs more rainbows.</p><p><strong>Tiny Cthulhu</strong> has certainly caught our eye for its “mind-blasting vortexes of madness and adorableness” so we’ll be sure ride the rainbow over to the developer every now and then and check for updates. We can tell you this one thing – it’s intended for PC, Mac and Linux people, hurrah?
