Mark Pay Frees The Spirit Engine 2

The Spirit Engine 2 When Mark Pay released The Spirit Engine 2 as a follow up to 2003′s freeware Spirit Engine, he asked you to pay for the game. The side-scrolling RPG was never too expensive, but now the price is hard to beat. It’s available for zero dollars at CWF-Freeware.

The game took indie RPG of the year at Gametunnel, and my friend Pat Gann gave it a great review at RPGFan, so I don’t think you’ll be disappointed by the download.

If you play the game, love it, and still want to support the developer, the game is still available for purchase from BMT Micro and Impulse.

Scary Escape: Which [Freeware]

WhichMike Inel’s Which is a short adventure game that fits into the horror genre as you try to escape a small (and terrifying) house by getting the only door open by any means necessary.

While the title certainly is unique enough on its own, if you happen to have a pair of 3D specs you can view the images in a special game mode. Check it out, it’ll certainly keep you on the edge of your seat.

The file weighs in at 21 MB and contains violence, blood a bit of gore and plenty of frights so consider yourself warned. From the description:

A short game where you look for a way to open the door out of the small house.

Please be aware that the game contains violence, blood, and slight gore.

The game requires at least ‘Windows XP’ and ‘Pixel Shader 2.0′ to work.

(ATI Radeon R420 (X700-X850) or Nvidia GeForce FX series)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel_shader

The zip file contains 3 executable files:

“Which-Lo.exe” – Low graphics for better performance.

“Which-Hi.exe” – Normal graphics, but may be considerably slow.

“Which-3D.exe” – Stereoscopic 3D in Red/Cyan format.

If “Unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because d3dx9_35.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.” appears, run “dxwebsetup.exe” with an internet connection, then run “Which-Lo.exe/Which-Hi.exe/Which-3D.exe” again.

Multiplayer Madness: Adrenaline [Freeware]

AdrenalineThose looking for a free PvP experience would do well to check out A-Team’s top-down shooter Adrenaline, a freeware multiplayer title created by the Game Maker engine.

A word of warning though, the title still has some kinks to work out with lag and disconnection issues, but a free deathmatch title isn’t found so easily these days, especially without all the account sign-up stuff. The game can be played alternatively as a single-player experience with bots.

Adrenaline weighs in at 5.8 MB and can be downloaded on the game’s site.

Bad Boy: Ulitsa Dimitrova [Freeware]

ulitsadi3a []Ulitsa Dimitrova is an extremely interesting and bizzare freeware title that tells the tale of a little boy named Pjotre who runs around the streets of St. Petersburg, doing things children his age are told to avoid.

It’s a very simple game with no real objectives or inventory or really anything of the kind, just you and your idle hands. The game is available to download now (21.9 MB) via Big Blue Cup.

Dragon Rising: Pylo Noveau [Freeware]

Pylo_Noveau_FreewareGames by Grit has offered up the first release of Pylo Noveau, a solid, good looking freeware platformer with RPG elements. In the game you play as Pylo, a dragon-type, making your way through boss infested levels with an upgradable flame attack as your weapon.

While the full title is still in development, this particular release offers up the first world which holds four long levels to brave, definitely worth playing through. The demo is available for download from the game’s site.

The developer promises a full, free release with five worlds containing four levels each sometime in the near future.

A Lesson in Absurdity: 2010 IGF Submission 78641

78641 []Wanted to bring attention to a 2010 IGF Submission called 78641, the ‘adventure’ game claims to be an English translation of the classic Esperanto game, Pato Viro Simulilo. It’s quite insane, often confusing and at times downright disturbing. In the game you play Doug Beachez, a dildo selling frying pan–oh, stop me if you’ve heard this one before.

The experience consists mostly of absurd conversations with a variety of equally ridiculous characters along with a handful of minigames. Some very NSFW stuff specifically with the language that’s used. Offensive words, but much more offensive (and confusing) sentences and topical references.

You can download and play the full game here. Just don’t be surprised if you have more questions coming out than you had going in.

Actual, official description after the break.

Impossible Castle: Dungeon [Freeware]

dungeon_freeware []From indie minds Mr. Podunkian and cactus comes one of the more difficult games you may ever play: Dungeon. Pretty simple stuff, an ultra low-end graphics platformer where you move through screen after screen of increasingly frustrating obstacles keeping you from the precious right edge of the screen. Be ready to use the standard platform controls of run, jump and die (repeatedly).

Though the game can be unforgiving at times, it does have a sweet side. Each room has its own title which adds a lot to a game that lacks really any other plot or text for that matter.

Dungeon weighs in at 3.5 MB and is available for download now.

In Ben Chandler’s Featherweight the player assumes the role of Thadd, a scout for a rebel faction fighting against robots who are out to capture all humanoids. When Thadd discovers that a fellow spy has been captured by the machines, he embarks on a mission to rescue her fully understanding that chances of success are slim.

The unique adventure game has players solving puzzles through figuring out combinations to open locks and doors as well as the standard point-and-click method of advancing through.

The freeware title weighs in at 15.1 MB and is available for download here.
