With almost a decade of stellar gaming experience under its belt, Demiurge Studios is stepping into its own light with Shoot Many Robots, its first fully independent digital release for unannounced platforms. The trailer reveals the game to contain a four player co-op, action experience where characters collect bolts from enemies to upgrade weapons and their jetpacks. Characters also level up and battle screen-sized bosses. Some quick clips seem to suggest there are linear levels with scrolling progression. In other words, the game may be more than just arena shooting. The art palette is a little gritty but contains an overall rich coloring.

Albert Reed, co-founder and studio director at Demiurge Studios, says, “Shoot Many Robots is the dream game we’ve always wanted to make: a 4-player co-op action-RPG with tons of loot and great innovation on beloved run-and-gun game play. Our team created a vibrant, unique style for the game that’s beautifully rendered by Demiurge’s new game engine. Building a ‘Robot Murder Simulator’ has been a blast for us, and we can’t wait to get it into gamers’ hands.”

Demiurge has worked with AAA studios Bioware, Epic Games, Gearbox Software and Harmonix franchises Borderlands, Brothers in Arms, Mass Effect and Rock Band. That’s a lot of names dropped. Soon gamers can decide if Demiurge has learned enough over the past decade from its experiences developing for these titles to stand on its own.

Valve continues its trend of signing on buzz worthy indie titles for Steam, as today brings the announcement that Tale of Tales’ experimental interactive vignette FATALE has been released onto the digital distribution mega-hub.

The realtime 3D event is inspired by the story of Salome. I’d love to tell you more about it but that’s for you to experience, if you wish. Wouldn’t want to ruin the whole purpose of the thing, and neither would the developer. You see, Tale of Tales aren’t your regular garden variety devs. They burst onto the scene earlier this year with the dark, introspective and controversial horror title The Path. Controversial as in whether or not the game was, well actually a game. Most who support the title do so because of the originality and the complete disregard of standardized guidelines for games in favor of something completely outside of the box. Woah.

Video game or not, the developer’s work certainly is an experience, perhaps even a profound one. FATALE runs $7 and is available now.
