Part of me wonders whether completing to deliver the maximum number of games at the lowest possible price is possibly hurting the economic viability of the current indie scene. The rest of me goes ‘Whee! Free/cheap games!’. With three days left to go, the second Indie Royale bundle has been a modest success so far, racking up 25,000 sales. To say thanks to their loyal customers, the bundle has expanded slightly, with a raft of DLC and goodies for the Steam version of Fate of The World, and two more shooters by Charlie’s Games.

The included include two scenarios, plus the soundtrack and a set of designers notes for eco-collapse sim Fate of The World, and two more psychedelic shooters (Irukandji and Bullet Candy Perfect, as you can see in the gameplay footage above) by Charlie’s Games, creator of the excellent Scoregasm. Both of the shooters are activatable on Desura, and the Fate Of The World DLC is for Steam users.

If you haven’t gotten this bundle yet, the price is currently hovering around the $4.4 mark, and additional above-average purchases at the moment are said to be pushing the ‘base’ price lower than ever before. Given that the price-tag of the combined games is well in excess of $50 now, it’s a fairly essential package so long as you have broadly eclectic taste in games.

Scoregasm, the long awaited twin stick shooter from one man shmup power-house, Charlie’s Games, has finally been released. Charlie Knight been busy working on this for ages, and it really shows. It’s slick, highly polished, and it’s packed with creative and interesting levels.

Scoregasm is like a bullet hell shmup, but designed so you don’t have to be anywhere near an expert to fully enjoy it. You can move and shoot like you would expect, but there’s also a short range area attack. This is your tool to help you survive the hundreds of bullets the game will throw at you, and kill dozens of enemies in one click: Brilliant for building up big combos.

Each level has a different pattern of wave of baddies to fight, and there is tonnes of variety between different levels. Depending how well you do in each level, you unlock up to three different portals to the next level, each escalating in difficulty. It’s up to you to decide how much of a challenge you want, so you’re in control of the difficulty curve.

Get it on PC/Mac/Linux for just $10, right here. There’s a demo too.

Feast your eyes on this luscious trailer:
The cats over at Rock, Paper, Shotgun have scored an exclusive pre-release demo of Scoregasm to try before its September release. The demo, like the game itself, has compatibility for Windows, Mac and Linux users.

The Scoregasm demo has the first 5 sets of levels, which the developer says will take “about half and hour to an hour to get through.” The game has been in development for some time, and Charlie’s Games has made a more current trailer in anticipation for Scoregasm’s release.

DIYGamer was able to experience Scoregasm at the EuroGamer Expo’s Indie Games Arcade last year. Mike Rose described it as one of the most mental he’s seen in a long while.

Why not give it a try and tell us all about it? Grab the Windows, Mac, and Linux download links for Scoregasm and enjoy! When you are ready, go ahead and pre-order Scoregasm to get in on the action early.

Charlie’s Games has announced via presser that its colorful shoot ‘em up sequel Bullet Candy Perfect has been released and is now available for purchase. The title described as a “sharp, super smooth [game with] 3D graphics and a cool techno soundtrack, [with a focus on] honing your skills to perfection as you attempt the perfect run.”

Even better, the decision on how much to pay is almost entirely on the buyer.

The game will sell at $1 with an option to donate extra, the dev only requests that you pay what you think is a “fair price.”

Woah, laying the guilt trip on pretty thick, wouldn’t you say?

Only kidding, I think it’s a fantastic way to go about promoting and selling your game, especially if you believe in it and Charlie clearly does, citing in the release one review’s description: “Twice the awesome of a retail title at 1/60th the price.”

On top of that, you get a copy for Windows, Mac and Linux when you buy the game, just the gift that keeps on giving.
