Of course it is not just about getting the correct shapes you must battle your way through this maze of unrelenting shapes to reach your goal.</p><p><a href="http://www.indiegamemag.com/indie-intermission-my-mini-castle-a-mini-slime-fighting-adventure/" target="_blank">Tuesday: ’My Mini Castle’ A Mini Slime Fighting Adventure</a></p><p><a href="http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&#038;uid=18775" target="_blank"><img alt="MyMiniCastle ss02" src="http://www.indiegamemag.com/media/MyMiniCastle-ss02.png" width="573" height="369" /></a></p><p><strong>My Mini Castle</strong> is a rather cute little game that has you commanding this solitary penguin to throw his potatoes at incoming slimes. It’s a very simple idea but executed fantastically with these great graphics and fun mechanics.</p><p><a href="http://www.indiegamemag.com/indie-intermission-productionville-its-all-about-the-planning/" target="_blank">Wednesday: ’ProductionVille’ It’s All About The Planning</a></p><p><a href="http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/53828859/Static%20Downloads/ProductionVille%28WebPlayer%29/ProductionVille%28WebPlayer%29.html" target="_blank"><img alt="Production Ville ss02" src="http://www.indiegamemag.com/media/Production-Ville-ss02-613x307.png" width="613" height="307" /></a></p><p>For one reason or another I don’t get to feature many strategy games on here so I leapt at the option to feature <strong>Production Ville</strong>. In <strong>Production Ville</strong> you must setup a village that actually turns a profit. This is made all the more difficult by everything having an initial price along with an upkeep fee that can make you think twice before expanding to open a new mine.</p><p><a href="http://www.indiegamemag.com/indie-intermission-mono-respect-the-colors/" target="_blank">Thursday: ’Mono’ Respect The Colors</a></p><p><a href="https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3057562/ld26/index.html" target="_blank"><img alt="Mono ss01" src="http://www.indiegamemag.com/media/Mono-ss01-613x299.png" width="613" height="299" /></a></p><p><strong>Mono</strong> is a somewhat unique physics based puzzler that has you taking control of this rogue circle as you try to navigate the unforgiving levels in front of you. Although <strong>Mono</strong> only has six levels each adds some new mechanics creating an ever-changing experience that is just a great deal of fun.</p><p class="c2"> ——</p><p> That about does it for this weeks round-up.  I hope you have enjoyed playing some – if not all – of the games I have selected for you this week. Always getting kidnapped by an evil villain who just happens to have many hundreds of minions at their command. Good job we got a fresh batch of heroes off the production line recently, goodness knows what would have happened otherwise! Snide stuff aside, <strong>Castle In The Darkness</strong> may take the most overused plot in video games ever, but it’s obviously an intentional retro throwback and it looks pretty good to us.</p><p>Riding out with the retro sentiment all the way, <strong>Castle In The Darkness</strong> is a sidescrolling platformer with some light metroidvania elements to spice things up. Developed by <a href="http://portfolio.mattkapa.com/">Matt Kapuszczak</a>, this is clearly a labour of love which we’re told offers 400 rooms to explore at the moment with a total of 1000 being the goal. Inside of these are to be many secrets hidden away, items to collect, traps to avoid and, of course, mounds of the bad stuff to fight.</p><p>Speaking of combat, this seems to be the focus of variation given the range of attacks showcased in the trailer; sword thrusts, magic casting and boomerang throwing to just get us started. There are bosses as well, ghouls and over-sized plants are the dish of the day with simple attack patterns to learn by the looks of it. Games have announced.</p><p>Ignoring the fantastic <em>Monty Python</em>-inspired artwork above, the game takes place over 15 levels as player attempt to rescue an unnamed princess from a similarly anonymous warlock, who’s disregard for sexual equality have compelled him to lock her in a tower guarded by an army of robots. Wow, what a jerk.</p><p><strong>Climb To The Top of the Castle!</strong> claims to pose as a hallmark to the excruciatingly challenging platformers made famous during the NES-era, with devilish leaps and obstacles evoking the sense of keyboard-bashing frustration not recommended for the weak of heart or Buffalo Bills fans. That’s really another debate entirely.  Charlie Murder and Ska Studios were part of the Indie MegaBooth at PAX and I played their damn game so I’m going to tell you about it.  You can discuss the “indie” nature of the game and yell at me  in the comments section below.</p><p>Charlie Murder is about a punk rock band that must fight off the evil minions of the rival death metal band Gore Quaffer.  This game is a side-scrolling beatemup with RPG elements and features the signature art style of Ska Studios.  It’s an homage to the coin-eating arcade beatemups of yesteryear (Damn you Simpsons Arcade!), but features level progression, magic, and RPG mechanics found in dungeon crawlers and the recent indie behemoth (get it) Castle Crashers.  Of course, Charlie Murder features more violence and a better soundtrack.</p><p><a href="http://www.indiegamemag.com/media/charlie3.png"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-26759" title="charlie3" src="http://www.indiegamemag.com/media/charlie3-613x344.png" alt="" width="613" height="344"/></a></p><p>Charlie Murder is already a really fun and polished 4-player brawler, but I guess that’s to be expected when the game was <a href="http://www.ska-studios.com/2010/01/19/charlie-murder-announced/">originally planned as an XBLIG set to release in March of 2010</a>.  The controls are what you would expect and very reminiscent of Castle Crashers ( you even hold the Right Trigger to map special abilities to the face buttons).  If you were one of  the millions that loved Castle Crashers, this game is for you.  Don’t get me wrong, Charlie Murder isn’t a clone.  It has its own unique feel, demented humor and grittier visuals.  There’s a puzzle where you have to throw food ingredients into a vat which creates a guy in a hamburger suit.  He commits suicide by jumping into a grinder when you defeat him.  If that’s not original enough for you, Charlie Murder also features a slew of weapons and items strewn about each level that can be picked up and used.  There is a ton of variety here and this really helps keep the carnage onscreen fresh and violent.</p><p>For more screens and information on Charlie Murder, check out the <a href="http://www.imcharliemurder.com/">game’s official website</a>.</p><h2>You may be interested in:</h2><p>No related posts were found, so here's a consolation prize: <a href="http://www.indiegamemag.com/the-splatters-shows-off-a-suicidal-good-time/" rel="bookmark">‘The Splatters’ Shows Off A Suicidal Good Time</a>.</p></div>]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[<div class="theContent" webReader="48.510373444"><p><a href="http://www.indiegamemag.com/loc-can-you-escape-marks-birnam-woods-inaugural-indie-release/loc/" rel="attachment wp-att-25716"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-25716" src="http://www.indiegamemag.com/media/Loc-613x343.png" alt="" width="613" height="343"/></a></p><p>The ethereal movement of Birnam Wood to Dunsinane Castle was one of the foretold omens of MacBeth’s brutal demise in Shakespeare’s classic piece of stage theatre, but will the sprawling mass of woodland and shrubbery’s namesake prove to be a similarly purveyor of destruction on the indie scene?</p><p>Premature drama aside, Birnam Wood Games has announced the release of <strong>Loc: Can You Escape?</strong>, its first commercial gaming project. The brainchild of a four-man, Vermont-based team, <strong>Loc</strong> is a 3D puzzle/fantasy mish-mash of sorts for PC and Mac. And it also appears to touch on a current issue or two in its wake.</p><p>The game’s basic premise is that the player has been imprisoned by the antagonistic Queen of the Faeries, who, to put it mildly, is a little ticked off by humanity’s adverse influence on the balance of nature. <p>The ethereal movement of Birnam Wood to Dunsinane Castle was one of the foretold omens of MacBeth&#8217;s brutal demise in Shakespeare&#8217;s classic piece of stage theatre, but will the sprawling mass of woodland and shrubbery&#8217;s namesake prove to be a similarly purveyor of destruction on the indie scene?</p>
<p>Premature drama aside, Birnam Wood Games has announced the release of <strong>Loc: Can You Escape?</strong>, its first commercial gaming project. The brainchild of a four-man, Vermont-based team, <strong>Loc </strong>is a 3D puzzle/fantasy mish-mash of sorts for PC and Mac. And it also appears to touch on a current issue or two in its wake.</p>
<p>The game&#8217;s basic premise is that the player has been imprisoned by the antagonistic Queen of the Faeries, who, to put it mildly, is a little ticked off by humanity&#8217;s adverse influence on the balance of nature. Faced with the prospect of lifelong captivity, it&#8217;s up to you to solve bountiful sequences of &#8216;Loc&#8217; puzzles in order to break free of the Queen&#8217;s iron fist and rise off into the sunset.</p>
<p>While that&#8217;s the long and short of the game on a conceptual level, it also looks rather intriguing in action, as the trailer below will testify:</p>

This also serves as the first peek at the game in motion.</p><p>We know how many of you are little chomping at the bit for any sight or sniff of news related to <strong>Starbound</strong>, so this is the best we could do for now. If you don’t know what all the fuss is about then you should probably check out the <a href="http://www.indiegamemag.com/starbound-to-be-limitless-first-huge-details-arrive/">list of features</a> that are hopefully planned for the game.</p><p>Chucklefish’s sandbox game should be mightily impressive if even half of those features can be attained, for now, the lighting in the game is looking pretty sweet as you can see in the video below. While it’s not a proper gameplay video, it’s just some walking in the dark after all, it does serve as the first time any of us have seen the game moving and not in a still frame. The feature that we’re seeing implemented here just today is directional torches.
