We’d like to think that no matter where you are, what you stand for or how you’ve been brought up, you’ll rise to prominence if you’ve got the poise, the talent and, most importantly, the desire. In reality, though, big-name video gaming monoliths stem predominantly from the the ‘conventional’ regions of the globe – the USAs, United Kingdoms and Western Europes, if you will.

That’s why casting a glance over a Belarussian-developed turn-based RPG wets our whistles more than just a smidgeon. What’s even better is that it looks mightily impressive.

We’re talking about Legends of Eisenwald, a beautifully rendered role-playing strategy-em-up from Minsk’s Aterdux Entertainment. A measured, tactically-driven experience, the game is currently embarking on a Kickstarter campaign that has managed to accrue over $46,000 as of this writing, with over ten days left to run.

From the looks of things, Aterdux are picking up the ever-enduring Medieval ambiance and well and truly running with it, with gallant knights, lurking archers and towering castles never far away. With three classes, the Knight, the Mystic and the Baroness, to choose from, players can forge their own unique adventures amidst a dynamically adapting single-player campaign, complete with branching points and unique storyline options for each class. You’ll also wage war with a veritable hive of magical creatures, including werewolves, although Aterdux are actively distancing themselves from some of the more laboured, clichéd staples of fantasy gaming convention, such as dragons, necromancers and elves.

Of course, you needn’t worry about a potential dearth of upgrades, skill trees and loot, for Legends of Eisenwald has them all in proverbial spades. So too will magic spells and unique units, and it’s certainly worth noting that any excess funding beyond the standard $50,000 threshold is promised to be pumped into the creation of yet more lore-enhancing goodies. There also might – just might – be a full-scale campaign editor if we’re extra nice, opening up the capacity for user-generated escapades. Yes, please.

To find more about the currently PC-exclusive Legends of Eisenwald, which may still end up on Mac and Linux if the funding gods be good, take a look at Aterdux’s official site. If you’re looking to become a financial backer of the project, you’d be well advised to check out its Kickstarter page.

You may be interested in:
