I received an email yesterday about a small indie game called Barbarian Battle Quest. Nothing grandiose. No press release. No screenshots or epic trailer. Just a developer interested in showing off his game. His awesome, retro-styled, Golden Axe-like, beat ‘em up that shows an enormous amount of potential. Yeah, that’s a lot of adjectives.

Also, I know it might seem like we’re on a theme today, but I promise you it’s not intentional. This just happened to be another beat ‘em up worth talking about.

Anyway, Barbarian Battle Quest, developed by Thomas Mason, is still in its very early stages but what he’s shown off looks like a fun retro-ized version of games like Castle Crashers. What I mean by retro-ized is the pixelated graphics. He’s even included a neat death effect when you kill an enemy where he explodes into a thousand little pixels.

There’s not much more for me to say on it now (no release date, price) so I’ll just point you toward the development video below. However, this is one game we’ll be following closely so stay tuned for more information.
