Steam’s Halloween Sale Has Plenty of Delicious Indies

So Steam just updated it’s homepage with a super awesome Halloween sale! It’s similar to their usual summer and winter festivities although not quite as grand and with a decidedly spooky theme (although some go without as well). In any case, plenty of indie games made the cut including my personal favorite Zeboyd Games’ wonderful Call of Cthulhu and Breath of Death VII Double Pack!

Zombie Driver Gets a Bloodier Free Expansion in “Blood Race”

ZombieDriver001

Everybody’s favorite zombie-driving simulation hybrid game, Zombie Driver, is about to get a second free expansion in “Blood Race.” As I’m sure you can imagine, this aptly titled expansion brings with it a new game mode to the series that has players racing against each other in a free-for-all, anything goes bloody race.

Really, the new expansion looks quite exciting and the fact that it’s completely free is just icing on the cake. It’s great to see smaller indie developers continuing to improve their game long after release.

While the expansion doesn’t have a release date just yet, a trailer has been released showing off just what you can expect. Enjoy!

P.S. Vote for Zombie Driver in the Golden Joystick Awards under the racing category!

Indie Weekend Sales: The Mother Load

Indie-SalesIt’s an unusually fantastic weekend for indie sales, what’s unusual for us is that it all comes from one outlet. Yes, Steam is having one of its semi-annual blowout sales that sees the vast majority of games in the digital distributor’s catalog discounted somewhere between nice and blatantly absurd, including over 60 indie offerings. Let’s highlight some of the biggest and best, as well as some of the other sites (yes, there are other sales going on this weekend.) Another thing to note about the Steam sales, these go through the 4th of July, but there are also ridiculously cheap daily deals that we’ll have to miss here, though I must mention Galcon Fusion for $2.50 until tomorrow morning!

Out of the many offerings available, Sacraboar at 90% off would seem to take the cake, the well received $20 tile is now $2. Altitude is 66% off at $3.40, AI War carries the same 66% discount as does its expansionChains is 75% off at just $1.24, Invent4′s Bad Rats: the Rats Revenge is $0.95 down from $5. Puzzle game Quantz is $2.50 down from $10, Super Laser Racer is $1.25, the list goes on.

Looking to save a bundle on a bundle? Steam’s offering several at big discounts including:

Introversion Complete Pack for $5 (87% off) – Packs Darwinia, Multiwinia, Uplink and Defcon.

Action Indie Pack for $6.24 (75% off) – Packs Larva Mortus, Penguins Arena: Sedna’s World, RIP – Trilogy, Space Trader: Merchant Marine and Tank Universal.

Puzzle Indie Pack for $3.74 (75% off) – Packs Chains, Gumboy – Crazy Adventures, Obulis and Vigil: Blood Bitterness.

Northern Lights Indies for $20 (64% off) – Packs Blueberry Garden, Bob Came in Pieces, Crayon Physics Deluxe, Plain Sight and Saira. That’s a quality bundle of games right there.

Summer Indie Action Pack for $20 (60% off) – Packs Aaaah! A Reckless Disregard for Gravity, Gridrunner Revolution, Metal Drift, Starscape and Zombie Driver.

Maybe most importantly Steam also offers 50% off on almost every big indie title you can think of over the past couple of years with titles including (just to name a few): Machinarium, Zeno Clash, Trine, Cogs, Eufloria, Gratuitous Space Battles, Time Gentleman/Ben There, Dan That and much more. If you were waiting for any of the various titles we mention on this site to go down in price its more than worth your time to browse through the list and pick up some wonderful games at amazing prices.

Impulse carries a lone independent sale with Zoetrope Interactive’s Darkness Within 2: The Dark Lineage for $18 instead of its standard $30, a 40% discount.

Direct2Drive also gets in the mix with Kerberos Productions Fort Zombie for 75% off, bringing the title down to $2.50.

Zombie Driver Now 50% Less With 50% More Content

Screenshot_20100412_01Oh boy do we have a deal for you guys. Forget whatever you were attempting to convince yourself to buy this week, EXOR Studios has announced an amazing deal for their zombie-driving-smash-em-up. Something they like to call the 50/50 deal.

Presumably starting this week — it’s not showing up in Steam just yet, but is showing up in GamersGate — you’ll be able to buy Zombie Driver for a mere $5. What’s more though is that this isn’t some simple one-off deal, the developers are also including some special DLC that will increase your gameplay, by a “supposed” 50%. Here’s the breakdown:

1. New area-based gameplay where you have to survive for as long as possible.
2. Five hand-crafted new arenas.
3. Online leaderboards/achievements on Steam.
4. Twitter/Facebook integration.

Doesn’t really sound like 50% more gameplay to me, but it’s free nonetheless. And just for your information, gamers who have already bought this game — if you fall into that category –  will be able to get this DLC for free as well. No charge!

So what say you gamers? Does this sound like a worthy deal? On the one hand the game got some bleh reviews — our own review included –, but on the other hand $5 is a pretty easy pill to swallow. And some websites did seem to enjoy it. Your call!

[buy from GamersGate, Steam is not actively showing the deal yet]

Demo Released and DLC Announced for ‘Zombie Driver’

zombiedriverEXOR Studios’ undead-killing Zombie Driver seems to have made quite the splash. Our own editor Peter Eykemans reviewed the game and listed his pros and cons. But for those who enjoy more of a hands-on approach, there’s good news. You can now play through the Zombie Driver demo–which contains 3 story mode missions–and decide if the game is worth the ten dollar plunge. (Or, as in my case, whether it can even run well on your computer). The demo is available and accessible through FilePlanet, FileFront, Gamespot, Bigdownload, AtomicGamer and directly on Steam.

But the news doesn’t end there. For those who are already into the game, EXOR will support it by way of downloadable content. The developer has announced that it will unleash a new Survival game mode in which players will test their skills in new and specially organized arenas. Also included in the DLC update (which will be free) are Steam leaderboards and achievements. New details will arise as time goes on.

Vehicular Zombie-Slaughter…Zombie Driver [Review]

ZombieDriver4Indie developer EXOR Studios recently released the car-as-weapon action title Zombie Driver through Steam. They’re best known for 2008′s DIPRIP (Die in Pain, Rest in Peace), and Zombie Driver holds a few similarities for fans of their first title. While the advent of zombies seems to be growing exponentially in today’s entertainment culture, Zombie Driver manages to remain a fun experience in an increasingly over-saturated market.

The game is a 3/4 driving title in the vein of the original two Grand Theft Auto titles. But rather than exiting vehicles to create some on-foot mayhem, Zombie Driver takes place entirely behind the wheel of your heavily armed and armored cars. It’s up to you to drive through a post-apocalyptic city, rescuing survivors while battling off the zombie hordes trying to kill every last breathing human. Set across seventeen missions, you’re able to earn different cars and upgrade everything from their armor to the size of its futuristic rail guns. Each mission gives you a different set of survivors to rescue that will help shed some light on both what happened and how humans will survive thereafter.

‘Zombie Driver’ Because Just Shooting Them is Not Enough

zombiedriverKilling zombies never gets old. At least, not for the current trend in gaming. But as always it is also nice to play through a new, different perspective than just shooting the zombies. So here’s EXOR Studios’ Zombie Driver, in which you run over and shoot the hell out of zombies in a Twisted Metal-esque game. Boasting 12 Steam achievements and 17 story missions, the game is sure to keep you busy and entertained throughout the holidays. Nothing says “happy holidays” or “merry Christmas” like a slew of dead zombies in your midst. The game is available on Steam and GamersGate for $9.99, so fork it over, Scrooge! (If you like the idea, that is).

Here are the key features for the game:

Not Tired of Zombies Just Yet, ‘Zombie Driver’ Coming December 4

zombiedriverJust when you thought the zombie-genre couldn’t get any more convoluted (in a good way, of course, because killing zombies rules), EXOR Studios announces its upcoming Zombie Driver for December 4, 2009. The game will be available on Steam and GamersGate for 9.95 dollars, 8.95 euro and 7.95 pounds, with respect to your location. Retail distribution has only been announced for Russia and its surrounding territories, with Akella handling that aspect.

The title features an old school car-driving gameplay style and has you running over zombies left and right. In addition, you will be shooting them with Twisted Metal-esque weapon attachments to your vehicle. The game also features superb graphics run on the PC and to catch a glimpse of it, read on for the trailer!
