Trine Demo Now Available on PSN

trine_screenshot_2009_06_thief_forest_runTrine was recently released onto Sony’s downloadable portal. The game, since its release, has been given many good reviews by both critics and gamers alike. Even our own review was laden with reasons why the game is so good. However, sometimes reviews just aren’t enough top convince somebody to buy the game. I can understand that. Sometimes you want a little taste of what the game has to offer first. Well I’ve got some good news for you.

Frozenbyte emailed me this morning to let us know that their PSN demo for Trine is now available for download. So for any Sony-fans still on the rope about this one, go ahead and give it a shot. For PC gamers, well, your demo has been available all along. Just pop on over to Steam.

Behind the Trine… Frozenbyte’s Lauri Hyvärinen [Interview]

TrineThere’s still something to be said for 2D platformers. Sure, they may not be made as often as they once were in their SNES heyday, but they can provide a simple sort of gameplay that’s both elegant and very fun. Trine sums up this genre of game almost to the tee. It’s simple, but challenging. There’s really not much more we could ask for out of it.

Anyways, enough gabbing about the game. If you wish to read more about it you can head on over to our review. This is about more than the game. I was lucky enough to be able to speak with the CEO of Frozenbyte, Lauri Hyvärinen, about all things Trine and Frozenbyte, including plans for the future. Check it out!

Once Upon a Time… Trine [Review]

trine_screenshot_2009_06_thief_forest_runLast week, developer Frozenbyte was finally able to release it’s game Trine onto the Playstation Network. Many of you may have already played this game on the PC as it was made available there last summer. However, for those who didn’t have a gaming PC, or those simply waiting for the console version to lay down some cash, we’ve got a nice PSN review for you.

Now, I’m going to be very direct: Trine is a damn good platformer wrapped in one of the most enchanting stories I’ve ever seen in a game. This is the kind of stuff that feels so classic fantasy and yet so engaging at the same time. I’d liken it to the old Disney stories of Sleeping Beauty and the like but with a much more mature storyline and without all the romance. All of this is blended with a fantastic platformer that is challenging, yet satisfying at the same time.

Bottomline, Trine is not a game you want to pass up.

Anybody Excited About Trine Yet?

trineWhen Finnish developer Frozenbyte’s Trine was shown at E3, it garnered the “Best Downloadable Game” award topping even Fat Princess and Shadow Complex. Since that day, there has been much of a wait until its release on October 22 and the game just keeps getting better. The fantasy action-platformer allows the player to create physics-based objects which are then employed in the environment to progress through stages. Players have the option of selecting between three characters, all bound by the Trine–a mystifying device–and must use these characters to the best of their abilities in order to save the kingdom.

European gamers have already given Trine a positive reception; a patch was also released to address issues players may have had with the game. Here’s the official link! The highly-anticipated title is already available for PC (via Steam) and will be made available to American PS3 owners on Oct 22nd.

There is currently no release date announced for the 360 version.
