How indie are you? Do your friends ask you about the best new independent games? Can you recognize screenshots from across the room? Can you sing indie game themesongs? (Ok… I night have made that one up.) Can you answer analogies to pass your indie-game SATs? Take Indie Game Mag’s new quiz and send in your answers to quiz@indiegamemag.com for a chance to win an indie bundle of Gratuitous Space Battles, Crayon Physics Deluxe and Puzzle Bots. You may need the latest issue of Indie Game Mag to help you answer some of the questions. [Disclosure: Issue 10 also contains my review of Osmos, so I would not be upset at all if you decide you need to own this issue.]
Here’s a sample question to test your indie games expertise.
There are a lot of great indie games and there are a lot of great charities. A group of indie developers have gotten together to put together a “Pay What You Want” charity event.
First of all, here are the games you’ll be getting: World of Goo, Aquaria, Gish, Lugaru HD and Penumbra Overture. You get to pick exactly how much you want to pay for the five games, and you get to check who the money goes to, be it 50/50 Charity and Developers, All Charity, All Developers or even a custom split of your own choosing. The charities are Child’s Play and EFF.
You can be the jerk that pays a single penny (not to editorialize) or pay what one of the game’s would normally cost and split it between several sources. No matter what, everybody wins (except when you donate a penny).
Support some charities, support some developers, the Humble Indie Bundle is this week only. Head on over to its host page at Wolfire Games.
Wolfire Studios’ third-person action title Lugaru HD has been released onto Impulse and is now available for purchase. The game has players assuming the role of Turner, an anthropomorphic rebel bunny rabbit with combat skills as you seek out those responsible for destroying your village, which only leads you to uncover a far darker plot.
Features include a fast terrain engine, skeletal animation, facial expressions and a combat system that brings attack reversals, counters and more. The combat is the game’s primary feature as it uniquely has Turner fight logically and in context instead of a series of the same button mashing moves.
If you want to read more check out the game’s Impulse page. Lugaru is available now for $19.95.
Lugaru, a game best described as a bunny-combat simulator, is now on sale for the low, low price of $4.95! I haven’t personally played the game, but the reviews are all decent enough (7.5 average) and I have trouble not recommending any indie game that is this cheap… seriously.
Oh and did I mention the back story sounds AWESOME? Check it out:
“Follow Turner, a rebel bunny rabbit with impressive combat skills, in his quest to find those responsible for slaughtering his village. Uncover a far-reaching conspiracy involving the corrupt leaders of the rabbit republic and the wolves of the nearby lands.”
How kick ass does that sound? Well, there’s only one way to find out. I’m taking the plunge. Will you join me? The sale is only around for a limited time so you’ll have to make your decision quickly.
