The Indie Gala Returns With A Multitude Of Bundles

Digital scarcity is an interesting concept. There should be no logical limit on how many times you can copy a file or generate a key, some places seem to just run out of stock anyway. That’s a deliberate decision on part of the Indie Gala managers for this pay-what-you-want (kinda) sale, as rather than have a time limit, this particular sale will end with 50,000 bundles sold. In addition, there’s three different bundles available here, offering 3, 5 or 11 games respectively. Oh, and like the enormously successful Humble Bundles, a chunk of the takings goes to charity. Lots of choices. Hit the break for a quick run-down of what each bundle and game offers.

Nyu Media To Release 3 More Localized Shmups This Month

The Japanese indie scene is finally making it’s presence known to the English-speaking world. Hot on the tail of Fortune Summoners, Nyu Media (who released Satazius late last year, with additional backing from Capcom) are gearing up to release a full trilogy of gothic-themed vertically scrolling shmups to all standard digital distribution platforms – Steam included, presumably – for $10. Keep an eye open for Tennen-Sozai’s eXceed collection in the coming weeks. Gameplay footage and some thoughts after the break.

Update: A playable demo of eXceed2nd is available now, with a demo of eXceed3rd ‘coming soon’.

Global Game Jam Closes With 2295 Submissions

Game jams are probably my favorite place to find new games. I mean, how amazing is the environment of creation?  You’ve got talented, motivated designers get together and try to make a game in a short time span, coming up with ideas as quickly as possible and trying to implement them. I’m not that well-versed in the demands of game design, but I imagine one’s creative process would be chaotic in a situation like that.

Seriously!? – The Indie Royale Lightning Pack Offers Six Times The Sam

The 2011 phenomenon that is Bundlemania continues unabated into the much more futuristic-sounding 2012. Sneaking in out of nowhere, Indie Royale is back with a ‘bonus’ bundle comprised entirely of Serious Sam games, including the whole third-party indie series, including Vlambeer’s Serious Sam: The Random Encounter and Mommy’s Best Games’ Serious Sam: Double D. As usual, the base price (otherwise pay-what-you-want) is going to creep up – now is the time to snap this lot up for cheap.

Indie Game: The Movie to Become Indie Game: The Show

This past weekend Indie Game: The Movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. According to some early reviews it’s been very well received so much so, in fact, that it’s going to be spun off into a half-hour television show if HBO has its way. Earlier reports had it as a comedy show, but the producers of the film have clarified that it will not be a comedic show rather just a fictional show.

SOPA/PIPA Delayed Indefinitely; We Still Want Developer Opinions!

A huge victory today for those who want a free and open Internet as both SOPA and PIPA have been shelved indefinitely. This coming two days after the largest Internet black out protest ever with sites like Wikipedia, Reddit and others shutting down entirely for 24 hours. This is a landmark event that showcases just what the Internet can do if threatened. Groups like the RIAA, MPAA and most important the ESA should take note not to step on something bigger and stronger than they are.

Super SOPA Bros. and 46 Other Entries Were Created for SOPAJam

Well I would say that LudumDare’s mini game jam, SOPAJam, was quite the success. Despite minimal preparations and not being a main competition like Ludum Dare 22 was it still managed to get 47 games created that were all about SOPA. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m pretty damn impressed with those numbers!

Indie Developers: We Want Your Statement on SOPA/PIPA

Today is the big Internet protest day for those against SOPA/PIPA. Between Reddit, Destructoid, Rock Paper Shotgun (this one especially hurts), Wikipedia and literally hundreds of other sites I think we’ve sent out a big message to not only consumers and general Internet goers, but also to the politicians who are seemingly at the beck and call of big lobby interests.
