Everyone here at The Indie Game Magazine is really excited about 2012. We’ve been breaking traffic records every week and have a lot of new and exciting ventures in the works. One of these *new* ventures is 8-Bit Funding. For those of you unfamiliar with 8-Bit funding, it’s a Crowd-Funding site similar to Kickstarter. It differs in that it is entirely indie game focused, supports international projects/payments, and is backed by our media properties for excellent promotion to the very indie gamers that love these types of games.Extra Exposure is always good right?

We spotted Red Dwarf Games‘ debut freebie The Old Tree and immediately fell in love with its style after playing it through. Essentially it is a point and click adventure which draws many similarities with Amanita Design’s fantastical creations. You take on the life of a newborn creature at the bottom of the titular tree and worm your way up to the top, meeting some rather peculiar characters on the way. It’s a great atmospheric piece with plenty of personality – understandably, we wanted more.We contacted Red Dwarf Games to find out what they were all about and what they had planned for the future.

What a wonderfully wacky, whimsical and (let’s not forget) walled-in weekend that was! February 25th-26th 2012 should go down in history as the time when the indie gaming scene pulled together and made games…lots of games! The effort was all in the name of the GDC Pirate Kart or Pirate Kart V, whichever you prefer. The Kart is to be filled to the brim with lots of indie games and whisked off to San Francisco to this year’s GDC in March. A kiosk has been paid for by the many supportive people and so there it will sit with its hundreds (maybe even thousands) of games flaunting the beauty of true indie game development. Before we get on to some of the highlights of the Kart’s games, we would like to remind everyone that even though this cram weekend is over, you should continue making and submitting games for the Kart.

When I say that puzzles enliven any genre of game, I mean it. Although I will admit that there are a few exceptions. As a gameplay element, puzzles lend themselves very well to portions of other games due to the pre-frontal lobe stimulation they bring within the context of a greater challenge. For example, crossing a room is one of the simplest challenges that exists.

Today seems pretty dull doesn’t it? Especially as it is a Friday, but that’s about to change as we have been scouring the net for free indie games to add a little color to your life. This week is a broad mix of things, but they all seem quiet peculiar in their own way. That can probably be said every week of our picks, but seriously – a lonely malformed experiment, a Japanese schoolgirl with a super power and a guy who can’t reach doors without his shadow. That’s pretty odd.Project Celsius by Celsius TeamCLICK HERE TO GO TO THE DOWNLOAD PAGEProject Celsius was made by students as part of the Videogame Creation and Design Master Degree at Universitat Pompeu Fabra – pretty impressive work we’re sure you’ll agree.“The game takes place in a space ship full of different traps and alien creatures.

You know those classic RPGs so many people love to play? The ones in which you trawl through every nook and cranny of a burgeoning wonderland whilst laying waste to demons, monsters and dragons both great and small? What’s one of the first things you do when you’ve looted the fallen corpses of your unworthy adversaries, raided all those dark, cavernous dungeons and pickpocketed that unsuspecting guildmaster in the local village? Why, you offload it to the nearest trader, of course, exchanging your unwanted trinkets for heirlooms and apparel rarer than a dose of subtlety in an Activision shooter. And you know what? These guys are always there, always kitted out with everything you need for a night out on the town/archdemon’s lair

Ahhhhh, physics and sweet jumps, patron saints of addictive indie games the world over. If you’ve ever played Trial Bike, Joe Danger or any of their countless brethren (statistically, you must have, right?), then you’ve heard all this before. Utilise your mastery of the acceleration button and tilt mechanics in order to fumble your way across a devious 2D assault course in the quickest time possible, preferably without landing your vehicle arse over elbow. However, the snuggly part of Snuggle Truck comes from the need to account for your truck’s precious cargo: a collection of cute cuddly animal toys. Let your ride get a little off balance or land too hard after using the aforementioned sweet jumps and the poor critters get sent flying, resulting in a game over if such an incident leaves your trunk empty.“Wait a sec, dude,” I hear my literary caricature of you saying to yourself
