As we all know by now, Indie Fund, the funding platform run by the likes of Ron Carmel, Jonathan Blow and other notable indie developers, funded a well known indie game that recently released by the name of Q.U.B.E. Said game was originally released back in December on Desura and Playism, but was available on Steam as of approximately eight days ago. After four days of being available on Steam, Q.U.B.E. developers Toxic Games were able to repay the full amount invested in them by the Indie Fund… Amazing.
According to the Indie Fund blog Toxic Games just sent a repayment amount of about $90,000. This is a rather large number which not only shows a bit about how much the Indie Fund is willing to invest but also just how much of an impact Steam really can have on the profitability of indie games.
The Indie Fund guys also divulge a number of other stats that are equally impressive like how Q.U.B.E. has sold over 12,000 copies on Steam alone since its release. At it’s current $14.99 price tag that’s about $179,880 in total revenue from Steam minus Steam’s % of course. No word from how many copies were sold via Desura or Playism but we imagine that it’s probably a bit less than Steam given their respective sizes.
Still this is huge news for Indie Fund and the indie community as a whole as it will mean that more great indie games can get funded.
So big congratulations to Toxic Games and everybody who runs Indie Fund. Here’s hoping the next launch is equally as successful.
