Octopede Slinks onto XBLIG, PC Version 50% Off

Orbital Games snake-like 2D survival shooter Octopede has arrived as promised onto the Xbox Live Indie Games platform, and is available now to purchase for 80 MS Points. In apparent generous celebration of the release, the PC version is being offered via Desura for the next few days at $1.50 (instead of the standard, already just fine price of $3).

The updated take on an arcade genre classic brings manic gameplay as you are put in control a computer program worm that hungers for delicious data. The system your eating data from doesn’t take too kindly to that, and things get nice and messy from there. All the while updated neon graphics, chiptune style music and sound effects set the vintage arcade feel.

As Geoff noted back in October, Octopede has a few upgrades from the classic Snake such as the ability to move in eight directions, and being equipped with projectiles to destroy obstacles and enemies in your path. There’s also pick-ups and bonuses to earn, including item collectables that give you a chance to up your point multiplayer by ‘caching’ your tail. That’s not catching as I originally read it, nor is it cashing, but indeed caching.
