Sometimes Mojang just releases too much news in too short a period for us to keep track of, especially while we are busy trying to play this or that other indie game. Still, they’re an important figurehead for the indie industry as a whole so when they have news we should report on it. In this case, they dropped three very important pieces of news over the last few days that really should have something for everybody!
Minecraft Reaches 20 Million Registered Users
Big news on the numbers side of the Minecraft universe as it appears the “indie” game has reached an important milestone in 20 million registered users mark. Note that this doesn’t mean 20 million paying uses, just users who have registered an account to play the free version.
Notch took to Twitter to confirm the number as well as state:
“23.23% also bought the game. Extrapolating, we find that 76.77% of the internet will register for things they don’t want.”
Cheeky!
Mojang is Working on Three New Games
This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise given that indie developers (studios) are always working on something new. Still, the fact that Mojang is working on three new games that nobody knows about is pretty exciting nonetheless. Mojang CEO Carl manneg told Edge that one of the new games was being lead by Notch, who recently stepped down from Minecraft… MiniTales anyone?
Manneh goes on to say that two of the games will certainly be announced, and maybe even released, in the first half of 2012. Exciting!
Minecraft 1.1 Is Now Available for the Masses
This is a few days old now so for any diehard Minecraft fans out there this will be old news, but the guys who are still developing everybody favorite indie game have pushed out a new update in 1.1. Aside from many bug fixes here is what was included:
- Bow Enchantments

- Added spawn eggs to creative (the colors of the eggs even look like the mobs)

The update also received its own trailer courtesy of H.A.T. Films. Enjoy!
