Can’t say I’m too surprised by this, considering that Wolfram von Funck’s (aka Wollay) game Cube World has been lighting the internets (yes the ‘s’ is there on purpose) on fire for the last few days. We’ve been quite happy with what we’ve seen as well in it as well as we’ve monitored the game’s growth over the last 6 or so months.
In any case, it appears that Mojang, developer superstars of Minecraft, have decided they could use Wollay’s unique developmental experience in their own game. According to Notch:
“Our current plan is to plug his brain directly to a keyboard and sell whatever comes out.”
Sounds good to us! I wonder if he’ll be working on Minecraft itself, given the obvious similarities, or if Wollay will be put to use on a new game.
Regardless, it’s worth noting that Wollay, himself, will still be developing Cube Worlds independently of Mojang and he still have every intention of seeing it through. Hopefully this doesn’t slow things up too much though as I’m really excited about it.
Oh and for his part Wollay is “so excited.” Good luck Wollay!
