Seriously!? – The Indie Royale Lightning Pack Offers Six Times The Sam

The 2011 phenomenon that is Bundlemania continues unabated into the much more futuristic-sounding 2012. Sneaking in out of nowhere, Indie Royale is back with a ‘bonus’ bundle comprised entirely of Serious Sam games, including the whole third-party indie series, including Vlambeer’s Serious Sam: The Random Encounter and Mommy’s Best Games’ Serious Sam: Double D. As usual, the base price (otherwise pay-what-you-want) is going to creep up – now is the time to snap this lot up for cheap.

Interestingly, this pack goes fully old-school – the two ‘full’ Serious Sam games included are the original versions, rather than the recent HD remakes. This isn’t all bad, actually – the HD remakes actually cut out some interesting features like gravity-manipulation, which allowed for some very funky level design in places, so it might be worth playing through the originals even if you’ve seen the fancified modern versions.

Interestingly, this particular bundle was commissioned by indie publisher (not so much a contradiction in terms – they so far only do the Serious Sam franchise) Devolver Digital, rather than being a standard Indie Royale venture. It seems like a good way to drum up a little more interest in a very fine series of pointedly old-school action games, considering the recent release of the excellent Serious Sam 3.

These games will be available for 100 hours from the time of writing, and the current base price is around $3. Keys are available for Steam wherever appropriate, and Desura where available too. As usual, you should be able to get stuff in DRM-free format too as direct downloads, which is nice.
