Yes, That’s a Fish Wearing a Robot Suit: Flush the Goldfish

I’m not usually so immediately captivated by a games tag line, but when I read about a one-person developed DSi-Ware game called Flush the Goldfish I was immediately drawn in. Not because of the title, but because of the promise: a goldfish wearing a spacesuit. How could we possibly go wrong with that one? My brain asked…

Needless to say, the noodle controlling me was not disappointed upon further inspection, especially with regards to the whole spacesuit thing. Beyond that, however, Flush the Goldfish actually looks to be one of the more unique indie games I’ve come across in quite a while.

Built out of love for mid-90s cartoons and video games, Flush the Goldfish, for me anyways, is very reminiscent of the classic Earthworm Jim series, except the gameplay isn’t quite the same.

Instead what we have here is a one-button game. Don’t be dismayed by that, though, as each new level/room provides a very different challenge for the singular button and it promises to be an eclectic mix of fun.

There’s also a rather unique “Random Castle Mode” that generates a new castle out of 300+ rooms all playable with a different theme. That should help provide a bit more replayability for those wanting a bit more bang for their buck.

Regardless, if you’ve got a DSi (or 3DS? Not sure.) I’d suggest checking this one out as it really does look to bring something different to the table.

Flush the Goldfish is available right now for 500 Nintendo points in Europe. A US (plus the rest of the world) version is due out sometime this month.
