Post titles are a natural breeding ground for misguided metaphors, I’ll admit. Simply put: Pyrodactyl Games have recently made available a downloadable demo of their latest project, Will Fight For Food. This is being provided through the Desura marketplace in advance of its upcoming release on Feb 29th. Described as a ‘Role Playing Brawler’, you’ll be cast as an ex-wrestler fallen on hard times on a quest for revenge and, one assumes, some stable accommodation. This is street life, people, only with less Randy Crawford and little more Randy Savage.
The demo really is a mere morsel in terms of play length and only offers up one scene and a couple of conversations for players to work their way through. But herein lies the draw. Pyrodactyl are extremely keen to show off their system for people interaction, and are promoting how conversational outcomes will diversely affect the game’s progression. To begin with, when you talk to someone, you aren’t simply offered a list of answers to choose from – you won’t even choose an appropriate wording. Instead you’re required to set posture and tone in addition to passing over your personal opinion on any given matter. Obviously, in the short time I had with the demo it’s difficult to assess how deeply this affects future progress, but it’s certainly an adventurous take on traditional game-chat.
Outside of some fancy plot work, I am equally interested in the combat mechanics and hopeful that the full game will be showing something of an edge in this area. Currently the punching/kicking seems a little flat and putting wrestling at the forefront of any story really does demand some entertaining action if it’s to portray two musclebound brutes going toe to toe.
