The Binding of Isaac: The Unholy Edition Heading to Retail in the UK/EU

And another indie game heads to retail! This is good news for everybody who lives in Europe, bad news for those of us stateside because, as with Gemini Rue and Terraia before it, the Binding of Isaac is heading to retail courtesy of Merge Games, a UK-based company. In any case, it’s still quite cool to see more indie games going, although I’m not sure if the Binding of Isaac is necessarily “right” for retail. Seems like it might scare a few people away.

In any case, The Binding of Isaac: The Unholy Edition is launching on March 16th for an unknown price but probably £20 given that both gemini Rue and Terraria were listed for around that same price. Quite steep compared to the game’s $4.99 price on Steam.

In any case, here are the extra goodies you can expect:

  • DRM free version of the Binding of Isaac
  • Free Steam gift key
  • Soundtrack to the game
  • Poster
  • 40 page “Devzine”

Not quite sure what the last one is, but it seems like it could be worth it for those of you who are particularly interested in looking at more of Edmund McMillen’s art style.

At this point I’m not even wondering if there will be another indie retail release, I’m wondering when and which game it will be for. Perhaps Frozen Synapse, Unepic, Bastion, or Minecraft are in order? What do you guys think?
