One of my very favorite games growing up was Contra, a side scrolling shooter for the NES. Super C was even better, I think, but Contra still held a very special place in my young gaming heart. Today, we see the release of 8-Bit Commando, a side scrolling shooter that’s very similar to Contra… and that’s a good thing.
Here’s the game’s official description:
8-Bit Commando is a run and gun platformer with fast-paced action, a rocking soundtrack (from the chiptune artist Ozzed), local multiplayer and explosions. The graphics will take you back to the classic age of gaming and the gameplay is bound to challenge even the most seasoned vets.
And feature set:
- 6 levels of intense action
- Local coop multiplayer
- Beautiful retro graphics
- 2 difficulty modes
- Online hiscore
- Rocking chiptunes soundtrack
All in all, the game looks very solid. If you’re a fan of general retro games or of run’n’gun types then this is surely one you can check out. We’re panning a bit more in depth analysis on our sister site AgedGamer.com later this week.
Until then, feel free to grab the game for $6.25 from GamersGate, Desura Impulse or Beamdog.
