We previously gave this some time in the spotlight as our freeware game pick of the day, but it bears mentioning that Robit Studio’s excellent Metroid-esque and nautically themed Treasure Adventure Game is now officially complete and released, free of the shackles of public beta. It’s still free, it’s even better now, and you should probably play it post-haste. Delightfully charming trailer after the break.
In a rather touching blog update, Robit lead developer Stephen Orlando said these words:
Might as well keep this short and sweet: Treasure Adventure Game is finished!! Over the past month or so of public beta testing I came to the realization that this game will never be perfect, but I’m really really happy with it. Finishing this game is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream for me. Ever since I played Super Mario Brothers I dreamt of making my own little virtual world to run, jump and have fun in.
Probably a good call – the pursuit of perfection has driven many insane, and is probably the reason why Fez still isn’t out yet. ‘Done’ is plenty for most – and anyway, it’s not like post-release updates aren’t possible. So, if you were sitting on the fence on earlier versions of this piratical, open-plan platform adventure, now is the time to download it and plunder some booty.
If you like the game, consider throwing a bit of donation money in the direction of the developer, too. This is a really polished, high-quality game and it’s being given away for free. Show an indie dev you care!
