Sometimes I catch sight of some early game footage or concept art that just makes me want to will the finished product into existence, right this moment. It’s the indie gamer’s curse and is always met by that initial pang of terror that, should a particular project fail through lack of time or funds, I’ll never get to sample the delights of that one game that made me sit up and stare.
Currently scheduled for release on Windows, Android and iOS platforms, Turbo Run makes me feel exactly that. It’s excitement and nostalgia and sickness all in one. Can we make this happen please? The sooner the better. Thank you.
Worked on by a small, currently nameless team the ultimate goal is to transplant an 80s arcade racer aesthetic into a fully 3D environment complete with bothersome traffic, AI opponents and police units to chase the player down. Boy, do I want to hit that tarmac, step on the gas and burn some pixelated rubber right over that hill. Of course, the next best thing is to watch the pre-alpha test footage below whilst swinging recklessly from side to side.
Turbo Run is in the very early stages of development, but it seems perfectly functional and the lead artist, Delko, has very recently started up a blog to chart the project’s progress. It makes for interesting reading and will hopefully continue to provide frequent notes on the inspirations behind certain aspects of the game as well as exhibit new art assets that will eventually populate the world. The selection of prospective poster art is particularly appealing.
I’ll keep an eager eye on it for now and hope to hear promising things in the not-too-distant future.
