I missed it over Christmas day, but apparently IndieDB released the results of their 2011 indie game competition after revealing their top 100 games earlier this month. And just to be clear, these are the top 10 released games, I’ve also included a bit below the top 5 unreleased games, each of which look very tasty, although a little surprising as well…
Anyway, here’s the top ten games of 2011 from first to last:
- Terraria (Indie of the Year)
- Frozen Synapse
- Trine 2
- Bastion
- Sanctum
- SpaceChem
- Dungeons of Dredmor
- Ace of Spades
- Atom Zombie Smasher
- Unepic
No big surprises here. Terraria, of course, took the top spot which I think was reasonable expected given how well the game has sold.
I’m also thrilled to see that Unepic, Sactum and SpaceChem all made it. I was worried each were going to get overlooked, but apparently each game has a rather large fanbase which makes me happy because those three are easily some of my favorites of the year.
Moving on the top 5 unreleased games of 2011 are:
- Overgrowth
- Renegade X
- Chivalry: Medieval Warfare
- Dear Esther
- Project Zomboid
Again not a huge surprise with Overgrowth taking the top spot. I think we’ve all been anxiously awaiting that game for a while now. Dear Esther and Project Zomboid are also two games we’ve taken an interest in here on DIYGamer so we’ll be looking forward to those releases as well.
But what do you think? Any games you’d like to see on a “Best of 2011” list that didn’t make it? Our own list is coming in the next few days (we always wait until the very end) so stay tuned for that… you might even be able to influence us! Sound off in the comments below!
