What can’t you say about Microsoft’s Xbox Live Indie Games channel these days? It certainly has its high points, but it’s also reached some incredible lows. It’s unfortunate but it’s actually one of the most difficult distribution channels to actually make money on. But, for whatever reason, developers keep making amazing games for the channel. Case and point? Orbitron: Revolution.
Orbitron: Revolution is a side-scrolling shmup that easily features some of the most impressive graphics on the channel. I know I’ve said that in the past, but developers just keep raising the bar. Seriously, check out the trailer below.
Here’s a bit of background:
The chances of the Orbitron Ring coming under attack by the Droid rebellion on nearby systems is thought to be slim. Leaving nothing to chance however, two of Earth’s best pilots, Blaze Harvest and Kaela Winters have been assigned to the station for active duty.
Combat space fighters, supplied by Advanced Combat Mechanics and their subsidiary Varia Aerotech, are on hand for the two aces to command in the unlikely event of a surprise robotic attack. Both fighters utilize the latest in integrated direct fire, as well as Power Cell driven Wave Bombs, and Power Shot technology in addition to augmented thrust.
The game was a finalist in the 2011 Dream.Build.Play competition which really isn’t all that surprising.
Interested gamers can head to the Xbox 360 consoles now and purchase the game for 240 MS Points. If you’re a shmup fan you should, at the very least, download the trial.
