Like words? Like physics? Then you’ll love new Words & Physics! I caught sight of this neat little puzzler on Newgrounds today and, for a bit of light relief, you can’t go far wrong with it. Just take a short coffee break and grab your thinking cap.
What would happen in a world where words were imbued with the properties of their very definitions? Well, finishing that screenplay would be completely out the question and you’d really have to think seriously about talking to anyone again, ever. In a gaming environment, though, the effects aren’t quite so serious. See that block of text marked ‘REMOVEME’? Just do as it says and get it off the screen. Mouse and keyboard are all you need.
Levels consist entirely of manipulating words into doing your bidding. Raise platforms by building them to ‘MOVEUP’. Float a ‘PLANK’ in a tub of ‘WATER’. Put a ‘PIN’ in a ‘BALLOON’. It’s clever stuff, thoroughly enjoyable and left me wanting more by the end. There’s plenty of room for expansion upon the basic concept and, with the power of the English language at my fingertips, I would have loved to experiment a little further.
As it is, the game is short and sweet – you’ll probably breeze through it in about fifteen minutes, but it’s a great idea, sharply executed. Also: word-bombs are the best.
