Pokemon is Coming to iOS… Sort Of: Dragon Island

Every other week it seems like there’s some sort of hearsay, rumor or pure lie that claims that Pokemon, in one form or another, is coming to the iOS. And in fact that did actually happen in a quasi-not-really-a-game sort of way. But that’s not what I’m talking about here. Given the popularity of iOS and the Pokemon franchise, I’m not surprised the former will be getting a latter-like game called Dragon Island.

Dragon Island, as I’ve already stated, is a Pokemon-like game. In a sense, this means that you’ll be traveling around a continent (Dragon Island) scouring dungeons, capturing monsters and, yes, even evolving them into bigger and better monsters.

Dragon Island is a deep RPG that borrows elements from old favorites like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Pokemon and blends them with brand new gameplay ideas to create a unique iPhone\iPad\iPod touch gaming experience. Enjoy the thrill of hunting and catching hundreds of different monsters, and figuring out how to combine them or grow them into the most fierce fighting force available.

But don’t think that it’s exactly alike Pokemon. There are a few key differences:

  • Time not mana or stamina. Each monster will use time as a “resource.” Stronger attacks take longer to perform.
  • Battle size consists of three monsters each. When one goes down another in your inventory will replace him.
  • World map with a “points of interest” like UI.

To name a few.

According to the developers there are around 200 monsters to collect so for those of you who just gotta “catch ‘em all” there’s a new goal for you to reach.

Dragon Island isn’t out yet. It’s about 80% complete and is currently running a Kickstarter project to help finish it off. If you’re interested you can get some nice goodies by contributing to its effort.
