Great news! Yesterday the fine gentlemen over at Dejobaan Games sent me a deluxe preview, special edition, awesome copy of AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! for the Awesome, the indie dev companies semi-sequel to the incredibly popular free falling game: AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! – A Reckless Disregard for Gravity. I know, my ‘a’ key is getting pretty worn out too.
So, first things first, you probably want to know what’s new right?
Well, for starters, Dejobaan has completely remastered the game’s graphics which menas all 81 of the original levels are back, but in a more glorious, beautified form. Textures pop a little bit more, colors are brighter and I believe there’s actually more stuff on screen this time (or at least it feels like it!).
But in addition to the new graphics, the guys are including 43 additional levels. So for those of you who played through the original and want something fresh and new there you go.
My preview version only came with two of the new levels, unfortunately, but what I played was pretty good, if not exceedingly difficult. There’s far more obstacles, tighter holes to fall through and, I believe at one point, the game actually sped me up to an insane speed. Needless to say I died, a lot.
Luckily the new checkpoint system allows for instant replayability. Think of how fast the checkpoint/respawn system worked in Super Meat Boy and you’ve got a good idea of how fast it will take to “rewind” to where you just came from. Definitely nice not to have to go back to a menu or wait a few seconds in between.
Finally, Aaaaa! For The Awesome is including a new “highly maneuverable wingsuit” that will increase your terminal velocity to 210 MPH. I’m not sure if this is what I experienced in my preview of the two new levels (honestly it felt like just a booster) but it’s a cool idea nonetheless. Falling is fun, but falling faster is much more fun. Right?
AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! for the Awesome is set to launch on PC and Mac in the next month or so. In the mean time, the Dejobaan guys are looking for some help in naming their levels. If you’ve got the time or interest, follow the link below!
