Browser Game Pick – Alien Crusader

Typically when I write about browser-based games they turn out to be platformers of some sort. Which if fine. I love platformers! But it does skew browser games in a certain direction that is perhaps not exactly representative as a whole. As such, today’s BGP is Alien Crusader, a shoot ‘em up like you enjoyed back in the the “good ol’ days.”

Alien Crusader is a top-down shmup in the same vein as games like 1942. Essentially you’ll be flying through a level, as a small ship, taking on hordes of bad guys whilst collecting power ups to increase your arsenal. Pretty standard stuff really.

Here’s an official description:

Alien Crusader is an oldschool, top down, vertical shooter with updated graphics and sound. It features end-bosses, laser cannons, explosions, heat-seeking rockets, weapon upgrades, asteroids, alien motherships, online player statistics, an online top-100 leaderboard, and 14+ levels with lots, lots of action!

While there’s nothing exceedingly unique about Alien Crusader, the fact that you can jump into a game right now on your browser with nothing more than a Unity plugin should appease some, especially those of you who are unable to download games onto your computers (shouldn’t you be working right now?).

Alien Crusader is completely free to play and the developers, Zydrone, are offering a prize to the top 10 high scoring players by November 27th. I do not know what that prize is.
