Huespace: A Pixelated One-point Perspective Shooter

Here’s a strange little retro shooter, Huespace, that looks like a game from well before my time. It’s a fiddly little thing, and as you start off without any upgrades, you’re ship is very fragile until you’ve bought some upgrades. It’s pretty simple, but the retro pixel stylings and beepy boopy chiptunes soundtrack won my affections.

Launch trailer go!

The developer, Quintin Stokes of Nonsuch Games, describes Huespace in his own words:

Take control as the pilot of a flying saucer and brave the farthest reaches of your galaxy. The forces of evil drain the galaxy of its vital energy… Seek and destroy Planet X before it’s too late! To achieve your goal you’ll need to blast your way past countless untold dangers and challenging bosses, upgrading your ship and uncovering secrets along the way.

This retro shmup features a faux-3D visual style and is packed full of unlockable content, some of which includes a hidden minigame, an exclusive art gallery, cheats, and new ways to play. Gameplay never stays the same with and over sixteen levels and a constantly expanding cast of galactic goons. Throughout the game you’ll acquire a total of eighteen upgrades to mix and match to your preference. An original soundtrack composed by Jack Menhorn brings the retro vibe to completion.

You can get Huespace direct from the developer for $4.95 here, and there’s a free demo version to try located here.
