So the IGF submissions were officially unveiled earlier this week! As somebody who covers indie games religiously this is kind of like my Christmas only instead of getting to unwrap a bunch of presents and play with them I get to scroll through hundreds of games and write about them! Seriously, I love it. As such this week’s Discussionware is dedicated to the venerable “Oscars” of indie game development.
Now today’s Discuussionware is largely about the IGF’s judging process with is a bit of a controversy every year for indie developers who’ve been submitted due to the method of partial judgement. Essentially what happens is each judge is given a specific amount of games to “judge” based on the tools he/she has (PS3, Xbox 360, etc.). Those judges then grade your game on a 100 point scale (according to the 2010 judging methods).
The controversy in all this comes from the obvious favoritism that judges tend to have. Some developers simply get put out to pasture because they’re making an FPS and being judged by somebody who doesn’t really care for that genre.
It’s an interesting dilemma so I’d like your thoughts on how the IGF judging process can be made better, or if it’s fine just the way it is.
You can read a whole lot more about the judging process from IndieGames.com’s article on it from last year.
Aside from the judging process I’d merely like to see some good games discussion. Found any good ones? Have you submitted one yourself? Let’s hear all about em in the comments!
