Do you enjoy strategy games? I mean hardcore, in your face, balls-to-the-wall type strategy games. None of that weak tower defense stuff that PR departments try to pass off as “strategy.” I hope I’ve either gotten your attention or driven you off by now…
Just a second, let the last few of them decide this isn’t the game for them.
Alright, now that we’ve whittled down the crowd a bit let’s talking about Iron Cross, the indie mutiplayer, WW2 strategy game:
Iron Cross is a real-time multiplayer strategy wargame set in North African theatre during Second World War. It combines strategy with operational level of war. [You] chooses Axis or Allied side and are given command over armies, corps, divisions, battalions, airforce, engineering and logistics. You can choose from historical and fictional campaigns, operations and battles.
Sound interesting so far? Well, again for you serious strategy game fans, it gets even better. This game is not only historically accurate, but it’s apparently pretty massive according to the game’s feature list:
- Large map covering entire Western Desert theater from Libya to Egypt, which enables battles to be fought anywhere in that area
- Historically accurate orders of battle and unit combat data
- Multiplayer real-time land and air combat
- Logistical branch simulates scarce supplies and logistical problems
- Ranking system – each player receives ranks and skill bonuses based on success in combat
The only thing that might be a drawback is that the graphics are little rough at the moment. Not that they’re bad, they just look like early Paradox graphics. So, if you can get beyond that, then there should be no issues.
The game is currently in open beta and is free to play. The developers are looking tog et as many people playing as possible because it’s a multiplayer game. So, if you’re looking to sink your teeth into something epic this weekend, why not Iron Cross?
