If Minecraft Was Based in Space: Blockade Runner

I’m left thoroughly speechless right now. A million things are flying through my head. First, why didn’t anybody ever think of this before? Space, Minecraft-esque gameplay, build-your-own spaceships? That’s what I call heaven! Second, why haven’t I heard of this game until today!? It’s agonizing to know that this game was just floating out there without my having been a part of it.

As you can probably imagine, I’m pretty excited about this game. Influenced by both Infiniminer and Minecraft (as noted on the website) Blockade Runner is pretty much a voxel-cube game similar to both, but it takes place in space. You essentially get to build your own space ships and fly them around in a procedurally built universe.

Here’s thew official description via the website:

Blockade Runner is the beginning of a Multiplayer First Person Adventure Space Sim that will feature fully destructible, operational, crewable ‘living’ starships in a procedurally generated galaxy.

It’s almost sounds too good to be true.

I’m still learning a lot about the game and have contacted the developers for more information. Until then, however, check out the trailer below and head over to the website. You can play it right now for free or you can buy the “Alpha” version for $10.
