Growing up I was a huge fan of the old school NES and SNES styled JRPGs. The stories, the world maps, the characters, even the pixel art was all fantastic. To this day I’ll still go back and play Final Fantasy 3 (VI) as well as some of the earlier Dragon Warriors (today called Dragon Quest).
So to say that I’m excited for a game in development that plays and looks very similarly to the old SNES Final Fantasy games but is based in during the American Revolution is an understatement. In fact, I’m downright ecstatic! Who wouldn’t want to play through an epic plotline set in one of the most defining moments for the current world socio-economic landscape?
In fact here’s the entire plot summary for you:
Born in Algonquian Virginia, “Alfred,” as he was later renamed by the English, was amongst the enigmatic spirits who have guarded civilizations since the beginning of time. Borrowing human-like forms, they live by the sword for the land and people they pledge allegiance to without question or defiance.
As a chapter of world historical began … an era of discovery, an era of empires, spirits across North America mysteriously vanished and in their place was “Alfred.” Due to his alien appearance, some Algonquians considered him a bad omen. However, his days amongst the tribes that would later form the Powhatan Confederacy were cut short when Alfred was whisked away by Arthur of England. As prosperity of the colonies was threatened after the Massacre of 1622 coupled with rival imperial expansion from France, the Dutch Republic and Spain, Alfred was left deep in the wilderness of Shenandoah Valley for safety. But Alfred would be left in complete solitude from humanity for 133 years, until the outbreak of the French and Indian War.
With Arthur fighting on behalf of Great Britain in Europe, the 13 Colonies had no choice but to turn to Alfred who had grown into a young man, but possessed the comprehension of babe. To the eyes of the one who ceased contact with civilization since youth, the world was “new” and full of possibilities. Within thirty years of war, upheaval, and a revolution, Alfred would transform from The Lamb, a gentle creature with an infantile understanding, into The Tyger, one who bears fangs at one of the greatest empires the Earth had ever seen.
The game is planned as a strictly non-profit title and will be released for free upon release sometime next year. A demo, however, is planned for release this year which will take you through the entire French and Indian War.
Also, the game is seeking some minor funding help. With 8 days left, they only need $111 to meet their funding goal of $400. If you can spare $7 you can get an NPC named after you in the game. Pretty cool right? Check out the link below for more information.
