The Solution to Super Meat Boy’s Self-Mutilation: They Bleed Pixels

Tired of self-mutilation being the only option, as such is the case in Super Meat Boy? Spooky Squid Games feeds the spikes more than your pixels in XBLIG brawler/platformer They Bleed Pixels. In fact, the developers have created an ingenious checkpoint building method to encourage using the deadly environment to kill your enemies.

Deaths by saws, pits and spikes earn stylish kills. “The more and better you kill, the faster you fill your checkpoint meter,” states the game’s blog. Therefore, you control where and how many checkpoints you receive. What gives the game its visual aesthetics is described on They Bleed Pixels‘ blog as “pixel art blended with paper and ink textures.” Check out the new trailer below:

The awesome, original lo-fi music behind They Bleed Pixels comes from DJ Finish Him (Shaun Hatton). Ready to join the Academy for Troubled Young Ladies? The title is scheduled for a Summer 2011 release on XBLIG. My only request to Spooky Squid Games: multiplatform development.
