• Jumping to New Heights… Abduction! 2 [Review]

Before I get into the nitty gritty of this review, allow me to just say a couple things:
First, I’m a huge fan of the original Abduction! World Attack. During a time when Android gaming was largely unpolished and crude, Phil Symonds gave us a game that was not only fun, but also very well presented.
    Second, [...]

  • What Have I Done?… Amnesia: The Dark Descent [Review]

There are games that are fun right away and lose their luster after a few hours. There are games that take time to get into to really enjoy, and then a game comes along like Frictional’s adventure horror Amnesia: The Dark Descent. A title which demands a commitment to the idea of immersion from both the player [...]

  • Onwards and Upwards with Comic Jumper [PAX]

Twisted Pixel is something of an indie success story – and that might be putting it mildly. While there are around twenty employees now, with more being considered as I type, the company was originally started with just a few. The team jumped up to six or seven folks for The Maw’s development and moved [...]

  • Yeyifications!… Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale [Review]

Next time you’re off galavanting around a massive RPG world, slaying monsters and fulfilling your destiny, spare a thought for the shopkeeper in the last town who sold you all your gear. Without them, you’d be a nobody – you’d have no sword, no armor, no healing products. Confined to a live of standing behind [...]

  • deadlysin2Although not a direct sequel to the first Deadly Sin, Deadly Sin 2: Shining Faith follows in the vain of franchises such as Final Fantasy; the successor is in no way related to the predecessor…besides the fact that they share the same developer. As opposing factions clash over who will lead the Archaelus Empire, players will take on the role of Carrion Iblis and friends to unravel massive plots of manipulation and fulfill their destiny. “[Carrion Iblis] will face down his own countrymen, repel an undead invasion, conquer his personal demons, find love, and challenge the power of the heavens.”

With a hefty price tag of $19.95, gamers may feel a bit of skepticism before buying Deadly Sin 2: Shining Faith. Fear not, however, for the developer Deadly Sin Studios offers a 1-hour trial demo. And more likely than not, this 30-hour RPG epic will hook you in with its host of one-man-developed features — complete with side quests, an original soundtrack, a fully CT-based battle system…need I go on? (No, really, you can read all about these features in the press release below.)

For those — like myself — who are interested, a gameplay trailer is available below. If you’d like to just try out the demo for yourself, you can download it at this location.

Immerse yourself into a world of conflict, as several opposing factions clash for dominance over the Archaelus Empire and its people. Take up the mighty blade of Carrion Iblis as he and his friends tear through a massive web of manipulation. Theirs is a journey that will crack open the doors of destiny, setting the stage for a truly epic struggle for the fate of the world.

In this adventure, Carrion must clash against enemies from within and without… he will face down his own countrymen, repell an undead invasion, conquer his personal demons, find love, and challenge the power of the heavens.

Deadly Sin 2 is a 30 hour fantasy RPG. Note, this is not a direct sequel to Deadly Sin 1, it is merely the next game in production, much akin to the Final Fantasy franchise.

    Features:

) The awesome, fully scripted, back-view custom CT-based battle system by Mithran. This is a sophisticated evolution of the RPG battle system that includes a winner-take-all threat system, and new stats, including Speed, Build, Shield Block, MPregen, and Equipment Weight.

) Original soundtrack written by the game creator, Harmonic. I make use of high-end VST plugins from EastWest, including Symphony Orchestra, Ministry
Of Rock, Stormdrum, and Symphonic Choirs. All these are tied together using Cubase AI4, and a Yamaha KX8 midi controller.

) Side quest system: The game features a large amount of dynamic, enjoyable side-quests… these really bring the world to life! And they reward items, money, and skill points.

) Augment System! This is a really amazing feature that is pretty unique to Deadly Sin 2. A system scripted by Mithran, it allows you to customize any
weapon, shield, or helm/body/arm armor with augments that you find around the world, or can buy in shops. Each item can be augmented with a total of one augment item, but the augments can be replaced on the same item, sacrificing the original augment. Augments add stats, status effects, elemental changes, and other enhancements that are endlessly fun to play around with.

) In depth skill point system: Each PC has a unique skill tree. Invest skill points gained from leveling up, or completing quests. In Deadly Sin 2, you can have your skill points refunded by an Inn NPC!

) Monster nodes: Every map with random encounters can have the encounters turned off by finding the monster node, which also rewards skill points. In Deadly Sin 2, monster nodes can be turned back on at your will!

) Mouse interface: You can use the mouse to do most everything, except move around, which is still done with the arrow keys. You can choose not to use the mouse by simply moving it off screen. Use Alt-Enter to toggle full screen mode.

    1. a hefty price tag of $19.95

… good lord, what is the world coming to when a third of the price of a standard retail box is considered a “hefty” pricetag for a 30-hour game? it’s the completely standard industry downloadable price that has been in place for YEARS and a lot of indie RPGs come out priced HIGHER than that. wtf?

    2. “Hefty” may contain a negative connotation in this case, so I apologize for the misunderstanding.

However, since most of the indie games we cover on the website are generally ten dollars or much cheaper, (Breath of Death on XBLIG is only a dollar and it’s an RPG itself), it just serves more or less as a reference point.

I didn’t mean “hefty” in the sense that that’s a large asking price, it’s just simply a bit higher than other titles. We have no problem with pricing for any game as that is the developer’s choice.

:-) Hope that clears some stuff up.

EDIT: Also, unfortunately, it seems that gamers are more reluctant to buy indie games for 20 dollars than, say, a retail title. :-/

    3. I debated the price point, but I went with the par-for-the-course. However, I wonder how this has impacted sales, considering I have depended on mostly other peoples’ customers and selling through affiliates rather than direct sales. But as far as the commercial RPGmaker world, 20 is pretty par for the course as far as the big, high production value RPGs.

    4. I am glad you enjoyed the game, though. Gamezebo said that I made it specifically for “hardcore RPG players” but that is a load of bull! It is easy and accessible to anyone :P

      • Thanks for dropping by and leaving a note! It’s lovely to see you reading up on others’ opinions about the game. Sales are hard to figure out. Hopefully, they haven’t been a problem for you and after people tried the demo they enjoyed what they saw, because it looked promising to me. Not as hardcore as Gamezebo claims it to be.

I’m looking to hopefully do a full review of the game. Get in touch with me at arsen.nazaryan@diygamer.com.
