Our own P. Rambo (I dub thee) has been covering Mode 7 Games’ Frozen Synapse as its been progressing along in development, now comes word from the three man UK-based team that their competitive tactical planning game has moved into beta and is available now for anyone who throws down for the title before its release sometime late this year.
Matches take place between two players with each receiving a dealt “hand” of units with different capabilities, weapons and ranges. Both players must then evalaute their units and the terrain, and make a plan to defeat their opponent. When both players submit their plans, both are carried out at the same time and the outcome is revealed.
Mode 7 currently has a trio of different pre-order offers that will score you beta access, each offering a free copy of the game to give to a friend. The announcement also mentions a Mac client will eventually reach daylight as well. From the press release:
Frozen Synapse – indie squad-based tactical game – pre-order beta out now!
We’re proud to announce the release of the Frozen Synapse Beta!

Frozen Synapse is a simultaneous-turn-based tactical game for PC (and eventually Mac): players take turns to craft and test the perfect strategy, then execute their plan and watch the results.
As a brand new twist on an old genre, the game is about quick, intense tactical encounters rather than long-form strategic epics. People have reacted well to this – since our initial soft launch last Monday, we have seen over 4500 games played.
Every game ever played is stored on the server for viewing: we also have an instant YouTube export feature!
Customers pre-ordering the game now receive instant access to the beta, as well as a completely free copy of the game for a friend.
