There’s a lot to be said for those “mining” games that are pretty popular across a wide variety of platforms. For one, they’re super addictive. But they also provide something with a bit more substance than the typical “quickie addictive” title. They give you a real sense of accomplishment and development, ya know?
Well, anyways, the reason why I started this post off like that is because it looks like a developer is seriously taking the genre up a notch. Lunar Giant Studios has released a trailer for their upcoming mining, turn-based strategy game Delve Deeper and, boy, does it look like a good’un!
Delve Deeper takes the traditional adventure mining games one-ups them by introducing a wondrously atmospheric “world” and combining it with RPG elements to make the gameplay deeper and more meaningful than a game like Miner Dig Deep. What’s even more, though, is that the game features a multi-squad team of dwarfs as well as a multiplayer aspect where you’ll be competing against other teams.
Here’s the feature list:
- Endlessly re-playable, fast and furious dungeon adventure meets devious tile-placement puzzler to generate a unique experience each time.
- Up to four players per map, each with a fully customized team of Dwarfs, commanded by your best friends or your hated nemesis, the Rival Dwarf AI.
- Gorgeous 2D pixel art graphics, fully animated characters, critters and combat.
- Quirky humor, with 100 uniquely named Relics to collect, dozens of themed rival dwarf teams, and the ever-present King of Dwarfs commending your success, lambasting your failure, and awarding you with snarky titles at the end of each match.
I’d say the only thing that worries me about this game is that it’s “turn based.” Not because I think it will ruin the gameplay, but rather I can only imagine how much fun it would be if the game were more of an action title.
Still, though, after watching the trailer I have a hard time not getting excited for Delve Deeper.
Delve Deeper is currently set to launch in June for the PC and Xbox 360 (Indie Games?). There’s currently no announced price. Demo is currently available.
