It seems from time to time the mainstream community becomes entranced by an indie game. In this case, The Odd Gentlemen created a silent film-style puzzle platformer that has every major game publication raving about its creativity and originality. But us indie gamers are no strangers to creativity and originality. That being said, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom is a worthy title. To me, there is no surprise with regards to 2K Play choosing to publish the game for the XBOX Live Arcade.
But for those who don’t own a 360 or simply those who enjoy playing their PC more often, 2K China is working on the Windows PC version of the game. PC gamers can look forward to playing as the “portly pie thief” on Steam, complete with their own exclusive features:
“…including expanded leaderboard options, new unlockable Steam achievements, five additional brain-teasing puzzles and Steam Cloud, which allows players to take the game with them on the road by accessing saved games from the Steam network.”
The Steam page for the game is available right here and pre-orders have already begun. The game will unlock on April 20th. At only $4.99 for PC (whereas I paid 800 MSP or $10 for it on the 360), this is another excellent deal to watch out for on Steam.
Press Release:
Windsor, UK – April 8, 2010 – 2K Play announced today that the critically acclaimed The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom will be available April 20, 2010 on Windows PC through Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/). Set in a world made famous by keystone cops, theatre organs and pie-in-the-face slapstick, the inventive game has been heralded as a “big contender for DLC game of the year” by 1UP.com, who gave the game a perfect 100/100 score. The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom presents the comical escapades of the portly pie thief P.B. Winterbottom on his mad-capped pursuit of scrumptious brain-teasing pies that wreak frontal lobe havoc from the puzzle-filled euphoria of time manipulation and self-replication.
Created by The Odd Gentlemen, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom was originally released for Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. The Windows PC version is being developed by 2K China. The game will be available exclusively on Steam and comes with many new appetizing ingredients, including expanded leaderboard options, new unlockable Steam achievements, five additional brain-teasing puzzles and Steam Cloud, which allows players to take the game with them on the road by accessing saved games from the Steam network.
“The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom teases and excites fans at first glance because of its charming, silent film art style and biting humor; but the game’s inner genius quickly surfaces and challenges fans to stretch their mental capabilities to solve complex puzzles,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Are you smarter than The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom? It’s time to find out.”
The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom has received numerous accolades from the media, including:
• “The game stands alone when compared to other highly acclaimed downloadable titles, due in large part to the game’s devious puzzle design, entertaining writing, and striking artistic style.” – Game Informer Magazine
• “Satisfying with a near-perfect consistency throughout.” – Destructoid, 95 out of 100
• “The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom’s creative challenges play with your emotions, deftly alternating between making you feel like a genius and an absolute buffoon.” – GamePro, 90 out of 100
