Pete, I couldn't agree more. I love XBLIG myself and I had read that article totally dumbfounded by him calling it a "failed venture." I see it as pretty damn successful.

The New Xbox experience is a wonderful UI for buying things, but searching for things is a different matter entirely.

700+ indie games seems like a lot but it is still barely manageable by a single person with a few hours to spare.

The service has averaged about 2 games a day released over the past year. If this continues, there will be well over 4000 games on the service in 5 years. I think we can hit 5000 or more though since it seems the rate of release is steadily increasing as more people use the platform and "finish" their games.

Surely MS will have released a new Xbox by then and hopefully a new indie game development kit to go along with this new box. I also think that indie games released for the 360 will work on the "720".

Christmas Day 2015

"Yay! Xbox!! Thanks Mommy!"

"Why don't you plug it in son, and try out some of the games?"

Little Johnny gleefully set up his new machine, with a little help from his father of course. The intricacies of managing a secure network was still a bit beyond the ken of Johnny.

"Merry Christmas!" The digital bill gates announced from the screen. "I must congratulate you on the purchase of Microsoft's newest and greatest entertainment device The Xbox 9000. What is your name?" Bill seemed to look directly towards Johnny."

"Johnny!"

"Well Johnny, What would you like to do today?" Bill waved his hand, bringing forth images and videos of games, movies, and shopping carts."

"I want to play games!" Johnny Screamed.

"Excellent choice, let us try one of our newest, Super Deluxe Rumble Massage 2.0. Have fun Johnny."
