Pay What You Want for a Year of Indie Game Mag

January 31, 2010 | Peter Rambo

Indie Game Mag Mike Gnade, founder of Indie Games Mag, is offering a subscription to the next six issues of the magazine in digital format for whatever you’re willing to pay, so long as that amount is a dollar or more.

As far as I know, Indie Game Mag is the only print magazine that focuses exclusively on independent video games, and that is a very admirable thing. I really like being able to hold a physical copy of something that deals with the slice of gaming I love. It’s one of the reasons I write for the magazine.

So while I recommend picking up a copy of the print edition, I don’t know that I’d pay the normal price for the digital issues. All the content is available on the magazine’s website, which is preferable to a PDF copy that you have to download and scroll through.

Also, as Philip Gamble points out on the GameMaker Blog, the magazine is distributed under a creative commons license, which basically means anyone can legally distribute free, unaltered copies.

That’s why I’m glad Gnade chose to go the way of World of Goo for Valentines Day. It’s a way for happy readers to support the magazine with whatever they feel its worth. The promotion runs until the end of the day Feb 7. Read more about it at indiegamemag.com.
