If you’re one of the few, the proud, the Linux users, good news: Aquaria can now run natively on your system. Coder Ryan C. Gordon worked on the port for Bit Blot, and the game just entered open beta. So as long as you’re willing to report bugs, the game is free to play.
And if you haven’t heard of Aquaria, you’re in for a treat. It’s a Metroid-like game, in the sense that you’re a girl who explores and unlocks new areas in a 2D playing field. But Naija travels through water instead of space, so there isn’t much platforming. She sings to change the waters around her while she searches for herself. There’s a wonderful story, told over a huge area with beautiful, hand-painted art and so much to discover.
Join the Linux beta or grab the demo for PC or Mac. Or watch a trailer after the jump.
