Frictional Games, the small Swedish development studio, just released a new trailer showcasing the level editor for their upcoming game Amnesia: The Dark Descent. From conception to execution, the video shows just how easy it is to create and subsequently play out your own horrifying levels (ideally due to their spooky nature, not craftsmanship). It reminds me of the good old days of mapping out Doom levels to trade on floppy disks. It’s good to see such support for user input before the game is even out (currently slated for a 2010 release).
The Swedish team at Frictional is best known for the Penumbra series, chock full of atmospheric spookiness. Amnesia appears to follow that strong tradition of strong storytelling and control of tone.
