Weekend Freeplay: Knytt Stories

KnyttStoriesI know, I know… this weekend, of all weekends, there is probably too much for you to play. Especially if you were one of the 4.7 million people who bought Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 this last week. However, for those of us who have not purchased that game  and are still looking for something fresh, fun, and free (the three F’s) to play this weekend then I bring you Knytt Stories.

Knytt Stories is a unique adventure game. I’d liken it very much to the old Metroid games, but with one caveat. There’s not really any combat. However, there is an expansive world and multiple items for you to find and use throughout your journey. Any fans of action adventure games will absolutely love this game.

The goal of the game is to stop a giant machine that is polluting your friends home, a place that was once beautiful but is now dark and decrepit. Unfortunately there’s a very menacing monster blocking the way and you’ll require a host of items in order to get passed him and shut down the machine. The items are, as you’d expect, hidden throughout the world in lands that range from dark and spooky to snowy wonderland and everything in between.

Knytt Stories really is one of the better games I’ve played this year and the fact that it’s free makes it all the better. While I don’t necessarily wish to devote an entire review to it at this moment I can say, without a doubt, that with the full game and the two free expansions you are definitely getting your time’s worth out of this game.

Oh and did I mention there’s a level editor for the game? Any modders who wish to tweak and create there own “Knytt story” will have a much easier time doing so with the game’s awesome editor that allows for just about damn near everything.

So what are you waiting for? Go download this game right now!
