Real-Time Online Gaming on Android

ProjectINFAs a card phone carrying Android user, I’ve never really thought of the device as a “gaming” device. I mean, sure, there are definitely games on the platform, but overall the system is seemingly built more for phone and data capabilities as opposed to gaming. So when I heard about a game on the system that featured real-time, online, multiplayer gaming I didn’t actually believe it, but lo’ and behold it really does exist.

ProjectINF is a newly released Android game that’s featured in the Android Developer Challenge 2 — for good reason. The game is a little rough in it’s beta stages but what it promises it absolutely delivers, multiplayer gaming via your Android phone.

The game plays like a typical top down shooter where you can pick your class, and play in either deathmatch, team deathmatch, or capture the flag. What makes it even better — if your on a G1/Droid — is that the game allows for in-game chat via the keyboard. It may also be possible with non-physical keyboard phones, but it certainly won’t be as elegant.

Bottomline, ProjectINF is a fairly simple game that will pale in comparison to similar games on more powerful platforms. However, for those of us using Android, such a thing wasn’t even really thought possible before ProjectINF came along. While the game may be in a rough beta stage right now — can’t beat free though — it’s certainly a landmark achievement on a platform not known for it’s gaming prowess.
