Unity Indie Toolset Now Free
October 28, 2009 | Geoff Gibson
Great news today for indie devs who wish to create powerful browser games, but also want to do it on the cheap. Unity Technologies has officially announced their Unity Toolset to be made for free to indie developers who make less than $100,000 per year off of game development.
The toolset, which can actually be used to pulish across multiple platforms including the Wii and iPhone, is best known for making powerful 3D browser games. Something that is still quite rare to see…
In the indie development scene there are already few enough resources as it is to make a powerful game (especially for free) and, until now, there was very little to help you publish a game for browsers (Flash ain’t free). With Unity entering the fray, developers without a lot of money can now jump in on the browser development wars to bring us some exciting new titles that otherwise wouldn’t have existed.
Bravo Unity… Bravo!
Unfortunately, the store currently seems to be under maintenance (probably to update their prices to include the “free option”), but you can still download the trial now to starting getting a taste of how the engine will work.
