Indie gaming has always primarily been about casual platformers, interesting puzzle games, and the occasional FPS or RPG game. So it comes as a pleasant surprise when we get to introduce you guys to something truly unique. Not only unique to indie gaming, but unique to the entire world of gaming in general.
Fatale, recently released by Tale of Tales, is a new RPG-ish game based on the Oscar Wilde biblical play “Salome”. The game actually takes place where the play ends. Here’s the interesting part, though, the game never actually tells you who you are playing as; it’s left up to your imagination.
So what’s the real deal with this game? Before I mentioned that Fatale was RPG-ish. It’s true because you are playing as somebody in a story, but it’s actually a little light on the whole “game” side. If you buy this game expecting a traditional video game you may very well be disappointed in what you find. This game isn’t about developing your character, or running and gunning, or even puzzles… it’s about story and getting you involved with what’s happening in that story. For that reason it’s really more of an interactive book than a game.
Tale of Tales was released on October 5th to coincide with the 78th anniversary of Oscar Wilde’s play. You can download and play it now for a mere $7.
We’ll be reviewing this game in the coming days… if it’s even “reviewable”. In either case we’ll have additional details at least…
